Anyone know how long petrol would remain usable when left in a tanker?

This might be better asked on the motoring forum, but people here seem to know everything

If a petrol tanker was driven from the refinery and parked, how long would the petrol remain in a usable state?

I read that it reacts with the air and becomes inert, but I've also been told that they're topped up with an inert gas to remove most of the air while in transit.

Anyone actually know the answer?

6 months max without additives. Two years with the correct additives.
After this it can be mixed with fresh petrol and still used, about 1 part old to 3 parts new.
Standby for the tales of petrol kept in cans for years in an old shed and still used....;)

Just 6 months! Wow, that's nothing.

In this scenario there would be no new to add to it. Looks like we ditch realism and go with fiction.

Pitching a new TV series in the vain of Survivors crossed with Lovecraft. My writing partner wanted it to be 'as real as possible'. But a 6 month life span is no use at all!! It's a !!!!!! when real life gets in the way of the plot

You mean like the petrol I drained from the tank of the Imp I scrapped and put into my van. The scrapped car hadn't run in over a decade, but the fuel that came out of it worked fine in the van...

A friend had an old Porsche 924 in the barn for years and one day fired it up, thought there may be a problem with the petrol being old but it started, albeit a bit smoky.
