Claiming on car hire excess insurance - Does it affect your own insurance premiums?

We've just returned from a holiday in Italy where we hired a car. Whilst driving I clipped a curb and popped one of the tyres. Obviously we are being charged for this.
My question is, if I claim or it on my Car Hire Excess Insurance, does it affect my own car insurance premiums here in the UK? When they ask the question "Have you had an accident or made a claim in the last 5 years?" would this claim be something I would need to disclose?

Good question. We just had a minor bump on our hired van, with three little dents on the back doors. Can only have happened while it was parked, as we certainly weren't involved in any incident while driving. Enterprise have charged the full excess (£1150) pending a report from their body shop.
We took out excess insurance with Questor, fortunately.0 -
I would be very interested to know the answer to this.........
Perhaps you would be better asking the same question on the 'Insurance & Life Assurance' board.
Some very knowledgeable folk on there.

Interesting just about to visit Verona and Garda, just read Italy has a law that requires you buy the CDW (COLLISION DAMAGE WAVER) and TP theft protection from the car hire firm. I have taken out excess insurance including collision damage waiver and supplemental liability plus. Will i need to buy this extra cover when we arrive in Verona.0

We just hired the car and got the standard insurance included with that with the massive excess. And we bought our own Hire Car Excess Insurance to bring the excess to zero. When we picked up the car they assumed we had got our own excess insurance and didn't push for anything else, just made it clear we would have to pay the excess and then claim it back from our own insurer. We didn't have top buy any other insurance.0

I started a new thread in the insurance section. It won't let me add the link though as I'm a new user!0
