Of course there is a standard portion size. I do not know what sort of weird chip shops you frequent but there is a standard portion size that does not vary much from chip shop to chip shop no matter where in the country you go.
I rarely visit fish & chip shops.I rarely have fish & chips (or any type of takeaway) so if I do, it will be a large haddock or cod.Although to assist you as you struggle with understanding what someone means when they say fish and chips cost £4 then search google images with - chip shop fish and chips- You will find a large number of images the vast majority of them a similar sized portion.
Kind of you, all the same.0 -

If you read the info in the link, clearly in 2016, there were big difference in portion sizes. I have not seen anything to say that anyone has introduced standard sizes since this. I dont often go into chippies (pizza lover), but from my experience they are all different.0 -
You do not need context when someone says fish and chips costs them £4.
There is a standard portion size that you get when you order fish and chips which frankly does not vary much region by region.
Well, you're going to need to know what sort of fish for a start, regardless of portion size.0 -
I am literally laughing reading what this lighthearted post has turned in toThe opposite of what you know...is also true0

Just in case some folks may not have noticed, fish come in a far greater variety of sizes than us humans, and fish portions also come in a variety of portions.
One of the best, fresh fish meals/snacks I ever had, was from the old beach launched harbour area of Hastings. We say this old guy frying dab fillets outside in a half oil drum contraption. A couple of miniscule fillets fitted nicely in a heated bun with a dash of tartare sauce.
One of our local chippies does the best large battered cod and haddock fillets I have ever tasted, and they have to fold the tails over to make them fit in the boxes.
It comes at a price though, because darn Sarth it costs £5.95.0 -
Best Fish and Chips come from Yorkshire, cooked in beef dripping gives a cleaner taste and dont forget the scraps.
All washed down with a pint of tetleys.0 -
Holy smokes
a fish supper round my way is £6.80!!!!!!!0 -
No idea of exact cost, but haddock & chips+ sausage & cheesy chips costs just over £10 in Mid Devon.
Now the bad news: we have to do a round trip of around 30 miles to enjoy them. There are other more local sources, but they don't compare. So, we have a permanent bag with plates, salt & vinegar, forks etc in the car, and at this time of year they're used about once a week.
Parking-up in the evening in rural places with a view means that we also see wildlife, like deer, stoats, rabbits and some of the more interesting birds. For example, had a sparrowhawk snatch a blackbird right in front of us.
Unfortunately, with the increase in fly tipping following charges being introduced at local tips, the availability of open field gateways is much less than it used to be.0
