What's this obsession with MSE staff and food?
We've got MSE Nick posting about Morrison's 19 item fry up.

Personally, I don't think how 'cheap' you can get it comes into it.

I rarely have fish & chips (or any type of takeaway) so if I do, it will be a large haddock or cod.
Hari (the owner) will show me a choice, batter it himself, cook it himself and let it drain well before wrapping it carefully and taking my money.
I'd rather pay for that than a cheaper, smaller fish that's been cooked for a while and been in the hot cabinet.

Stinking hot and humid here today so fish and chips would be my last choice for dinner tonight - going to be barbecue and salad.

Some of the best fish and chips I've had were from the other side of the world, but that might just have been because I always had my beer goggles on when I ordered. Used to enjoy a " full English" and a pint of guiness from an Irish bar on Beach Blanket Babylon Boulevard too - proper, English, Heinz beans, HP sauce, black pudding and real bacon (not streaky cooked til it snaps).

I love fish and chips. We don't have a decent chippy near us these days as it was turned into a chain pizza shop - which really miffed the local residents.. as there is a well used rival chain pizza shop two doors down. I mean I love Pizza too, but tis a tad more expensive

Best chips I ever had ..cromer sea front. Completely unexected but saw a chippy where people were queing out the door and thought it must be good
The opposite of what you know...is also true

    Yeah.
We were suckered into that in Whitby and Scarborough.
My polystyrene tray was an inch deep in fat.

Fish and Chips here will set you back about £4, not sure if this varies up and down the country.

You do not need context when someone says fish and chips costs them £4.

There is a standard portion size that you get when you order fish and chips which frankly does not vary much region by region.

    No.
Frankly, there isn't a standard portion size.
Frankly, there isn't even a standard portion size in the few fish and chip shops I've visited in my area.

Of course there is a standard portion size. I do not know what sort of weird chip shops you frequent but there is a standard portion size that does not vary much from chip shop to chip shop no matter where in the country you go.

You can buy variations e.g. large/small chip but in the 50 plus chip shops I have visited you get very little variation on size of a standard portion of fish and chips.

In fact in a large percentage of the shops I have been in the size of the chips is dictated by filling up one of those generic polystyrene trays and then pouring the contents out onto the chip paper

Although to assist you as you struggle with understanding what someone means when they say fish and chips cost £4 then search google images with - chip shop fish and chips- You will find a large number of images the vast majority of them a similar sized portion.
