EE bank details conundrum.

A very strange scenario that played out today,i am still worried something strange is going on.

I tried to login in today to my online EE account,it asked me to enter my sort code and account number associated with my mobile number, i entered this but error message came up saying details not valid, anyway i rang EE to say what is the issue, they stated the sort code i entered does not match the 1 they have in their system, the account number matches but sort code doesn't. I said if that is the case how have you been taking bills out my bank account via direct debit? The chap could not answer me he was very confused but was adamant that the sort code does not match the 1 they have on their system.

So i ring Nationwide and ask if my sort code has ever changed when paying EE, they state my sort code has always been the same and has never changed. So i ring EE back and spoke to another adviser who repeats the same " your sort code does not match the 1 we have in our system" i reply " how have you been taking money out my account for the last few years" he replies " i cant explain it" he puts me through their technical team who repeat the same mantra but offer to update my sort code detail, which i did do.

Now i have this nagging doubt that something dodgy is going on.

How have they been taking money out my account if they have the wrong sort code?

They have changed my sort code to the correct one, but it doesn't explain why they had the wrong sort code, and were still able to take money out my account.

Any ideas?

Do you have, or can you obtain, past bank statements from NW with details of account number and sort code? A few scanned images of these, emailed to EE, of the past dates, might wake them up. But ensure you have EE email address as correct FIRST: check EE website without logging in.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

When i was on the phone on them earlier i logged into my nationwide account and explained to the EE guy that payments have come out my account, with the sort code that you are saying is not correct listed next to these payments. He could not explain it.

Anyway i think EE should call me in the next 48 hours after investigating, its a bit strange the whole situation, i will offer to email these statements if this is not resolved.

Why not offer them the reference number from your last DD payment. I have had this issue, but only when I forget that Barclays changed a digit in my sort code a few months ago.
