Is my boss being unfair? 6 people taking holiday seperately?!

10 * 46/52 = 8.85 FTE
11 * 46/52 = 9.73 FTE
both a little short for 1 person off0 -

Not if everyone is off together for the bank holidays (1.6 weeks) which is what I was working on. So 5 weeks of holiday each, to spread over 50.4 weeks. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Yep the maths may work but I am not sure the people factor does.0

If, as an employer, I felt that there was a business need to only allow one member of staff to take holidays at any time, and was then faced with bickering about this from the staff, I would simply allocate holidays on a rota basis. There would be no choice about when those holidays were taken. I certainly wouldn't allow the issue of staff holidays to take up any significant amount of my time or to become a problem for my business.
OP. Either work with the system that offers you some flexibility or be prepared to lose that flexibility.
Yeah - see how far you get with that...!
I think the simple answer is...OP...ask your employer to let two off at a time, that would seriously help and is not too much of a compromise. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
OP, what your employer is saying is not unlawful, but it does seem likely to cause probalems.
I would suggests that you approach your boss as a group, and propose that the rules are relaxed to allow up to 2 people off at once, on the basis that the other 4 people should be able to cover their more urgent work as they have in the past.
If your business has some periods which are particularly busy (e.g year end) then you could suggest either a ban on holidays in that period, or a rule that during that period only, no more than one person can be off at once. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
