Private Parking Charge - Incorrectly Addressed

Hi

I'm hoping for some advice in connection with a parking charge.

I parked in an Excel car park and paid using the Ringo app. Unfortunately, I selected the registration number for my old car rather than the car I was driving so a parking charge was issued. The car I was driving was leased so presumably Excel had to obtain keeper details from the leasing company.

The first I was aware of the issue was a letter I received from BW Legal requesting payment of c. £200 for the charge and their legal fees. The letter is correctly addressed other than the my apartment number is missing (there are 40+ apartments in my block).

I provided BW Legal with evidence that I paid for parking on that day but selected the wrong car as a result of a genuine mistake. They are not willing to entertain cancelling the charge and I probably have to accept that by not selecting the correct registration number I didn't have a valid ticket?

I then asked for a copy of the parking charge notice as I was concerned it may also be missing my apartment number and this would explain why it was not received by me. BW Legal have provided a copy and the apartment number is missing. It was only by luck and presumably by the postman recognising my name that the BW Legal letter was received.

My question is, do I:
1. Say to BW Legal that I will pay the original reduced charge of £60 but nothing more; or
2. Do I have any argument that the charge is invalid due to a) me purchasing a ticket albeit for the wrong car and/or b) the parking charge notice being incorrectly addressed?

Thanks for any help.

Phil

''Rip-offs from car park Cowboys must stop''; unfair treatment; signage deliberately confusing to ensure a PCN is issued; ''years of abuse by rogue parking companies''; bloodsuckers; ''the current system of regulation is hopeless, like putting Dracula in charge of the blood-bank''; extortionate fines; rogue operators; ''sense of injustice''; unfair charges and notices; wilfully misleading; signage is a deliberate act to deceive or mislead; ''confusing signs are often deliberate, to trap innocent drivers''; unreasonable; a curse; harassing; operating in a disgusting way; appeals service is no guarantee of a fair hearing; loathed; outrageous scam; dodgy practice; outrageous abuse; unscrupulous practices; ''the British Parking Association is as much use as a multi-storey car park in the Gobi desert''; and finally, by way of unanimous conclusion: ''we need to crack down on these rogue companies. They are an absolute disgrace to this country. Ordinary motorists and ordinary residents should not have to put up with this''.

These are the exact words used, so you should quote them to your MP in a complaint and ask him/her to contact Sir Greg Knight MP if he wants further information about this scam.

    good luck

They won't accept less, you are dealing with a scam they will see a sucker and hound you even more.

Their profitability relies on people that make mistakes like you, otherwise they would go out of business, what ever the VRN number is you paid no one was out of pocket, you are being scammed!

    No you won't.

You did blow your winning stance as hirer/lessee though. OUCH. You said you were driving! OMG.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
