It is more convenient then making food at home and bringing it in.
It often tastes better than a soggy sandwich I made the night before. I hate sandwiches and prefer things that taste good. I don't want to eat meat and carbs for lunch everyday.
It provides a mental and physical break from work which is crucial for those of us with stressful jobs.
Taking in lunch requires planning and time in the evening. There are many times when I don't get home until past my regular bed-time, and have no interest in cooking.
Eating a tasty lunch makes me feel good about the day. I am easily bored and don't repeat meals.

That said, it's expensive and not always more joyful than a delicious lunch at home. A well cooked packed lunch beats a Pret sandwich.

I bring a packed lunch to work every single day. I always take a break away from my desk and go for a walk at lunchtime. However, my colleagues who buy lunch spend every lunch break in a queue! I don't envy them one bit :rotfl:

It doesn't have to take a lot of planning. I often bring in leftovers (these usually get some jealous comments from colleagues as lots of things taste better on day 2), or a salad or soup thrown together from whatever is in the fridge.

I also keep a little stash of vacuum packs of dhal and the like in my desk at work for the days when I haven't brought in lunch.

Used up some broccoli soup from the freezer, which was ok even if it does just taste like boiled and blitzed broccoli (which was how it came to be cooling its heels in the freezer in the first place, I got a load of YL broccoli and made a big batch of soup and then got sick of boiled broccoli for lunch! But a few months later and I'm good to go again ) :rotfl: and used one more of my pitta stash, toasted.

And the same today as the frozen pot had enough for 2 meals in it, then I'll try and get more imaginative next week!! :D

  • Another pitta gone from the freezer stash, and also some pumpkin soup which got 'forgotten' as it was watery and tasteless, like slightly thick spicy water! Anyway it's eaten now :D

It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

  • I'm going to get a bit more frozen soup from the freezer and have it with yet another toasted pitta bread- thankfully that still sounds good, not sick of it yet! :D
