Lloyds Bank Opened An Account In My Name

Hi,
After a bit of advice where to go next with a complaint I have made to Lloyds Bank.
My son recently turned 16 and went into a local Lloyds Bank branch to open up a current account for himself, armed only with his own passport.
A couple of weeks later to my surprise I received 3 seperate items of post:
1 x debit card
1 x online banking passcode
1 x pin number for debit card
ALL IN MY NAME
I phoned Lloyds to make a complaint and ask them to start an investigation on how the hell this could happen. I have since receieved a letter stating that is was human error by an employee in the branch and he selected my details from the database (I have never banked with Lloyds however had a Halifax credit card back in 2012).
They have offered me £300 compensation and have stated that they will get the searches removed from my credit file.
Should I take this further and if so where/with who?
Thanks

£300 is, I think, a very good offer of compensation. As long as they close the account (should you wish) and remove the searches, I'd say that's a good result.
What about your son? Did he complain?I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0 -
An explanation, presumably an apology, and £300..? Having caused you no material detriment? And you want to take it further..?
Did your son get his account opened? If not, perhaps he could embark on his first foray into the outraged compensation culture.Evolution, not revolution0 -
I'd snap their hands off for that £300, its a very good offer.
Mchambers would encourage you to take it further though ha!0 -
£300 and the removal of any searches/applications is more then enough
What more do you want? Please tell0 -
Thanks for all of your replies guys.... to answer the questions raised:
They didnt open an account in my sons name, and I have since opened an account with him with Barclays.
He hasnt complained, do you think he should?
By all of your responses it seems its a fair offer. I wasnt sure if it was and should I take it further, hence the post on this forum.0 -
At £300 a pop, go back in and hope they make the same mistake again.
There's not many people who can earn £300 for a hour in the high street, although I have my suspicions about an ex girlfriend of mine.0 -

Bite their hands off.
I would also put in a data subject access request to see exactly what info they hold about you - you have a right to be forgotten under most circumstances

I have never banked with Lloyds however had a Halifax credit card back in 2012.
When you open a Lloyds Bank product, it automatically creates a profile for you at Halifax and the two are linked. If you change address at Lloyds for example, it automatically changes the address at Halifax, as long as the system has linked the profiles.0 -

First of all, when you open an account in a branch you get lots and lots of paperwork. In particular, you get an account number, agreement, terms and conditions, which you are supposed to sign.
It looks like your son signed it without reading it carefully - or he would have noticed that the account is in your name and not his.
Grab £300. Check the paperwork carefully with your son. Make sure he learnt the lesson: he must read every paper he signs.
In addition, you have to make it very clear, that opening an account in other's person name is in fact a fraud and a very serious matter. If done deliberately, the consequences would be very, very far from free £300. There has been a number of threads along the lines "mother/father/uncle has run a debt in my name". Presumably, you wouldn't want your son to take credit cards in your name in 4 years time?0
