New Build and Part Exchange

Options
We have part exchanged our existing home with builder to get a new built home from them. The new house is nearly ready and we should expect builder to serve us 10 working day notice to complete.

My question is around key handover. Are we supposed to hand over the keys of our part ex house on the same day as taking the keys for the new house? We don’t really want to handover the keys of part-ex house on the same day as we would have to come back to clean the house since builder solicitor is retaining £800 (refundable) from us for clean and tidy retention in case house is left untidy.

I will ask builders sales office the question but before I do this I actually wants to know if anyone from the forum has completed on a new built with part exchanged to share their experience.

Many thanks

We part ex-ed with a local builder. Completed and moved into the new house on the Friday, but they weren't fussed about getting the keys to the old house until Monday morning. We were grateful for the leeway!

Thanks Noctu for sharing your experience.
I would request something similar from the builder so we have some leeway too :)
Let see if they are going to be flexible..

I was also able to have access to both houses for 2 days. I asked permission before hand and was given a letter stating this was ok, and to hand the keys over to the estate agent who had been appointed by the end of the following day.

In my case I got back £500 for cleaning the empty house from top to bottom, and even mowing the lawn.

Thanks Tim9966, our builder also has £500 compensation but it has to do with if part-ex house were to sell while in occupation :)
