The Leaf's have issues with batteries not being healthy after a period of use. There are ways to check the health - look for videos about this on YouTube. If the low battery health was not advised to you, you need to reject the car because it is never going to be right.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Put your rejection in writing citing the reason for rejection and also head it, Letter before action.

Take all emotion out of your rejection letter and stick to facts. Your 30 day right to reject is now paused.

The dealer is allowed to check the vehicle but make sure in your rejection that you state you are not willing to accept a repair. I would also state in the rejection that they have 14 days to refund or you will take further action without further notice.

I would also suggest you check that your trade in is still registered to you and the tax hasn't been cancelled.

The last 3 vehicles I've purchased, the DVLA notification was done online by the garage whilst I was there.

But as already mentioned by others, the dealer is perfectly entitled to ask the OP to prove that a fault exists with the vehicle.
If the OP is not able to provide this proof and the dealer refuses to accept the car back, any legal action to recover their money will probably fail.

yes but surely they cant say we will only check it after your 30 days have expired and then regardless you have no comeback (which is what they have done)

They haven't done that. As neilmcl pointed out, the 30 days is on pause and will begin once the car has been checked.

No, the dealer has to prove there isn't a fault.

I'm not saying this, the law says it! The OP is on here to get advice and they've been given the correct advice so far.

No, the dealer has to prove there isn't a fault.
Not if the OP wants to exercise their short-term right to reject, the onus is all on the OP.
