Can somebody explain this BT ADSL Test result

Options
Hi all,

Looking at moving to a very rural area shortly and i'm trying to find out what broadband speed i can get. I ran the BT ADSL speedchecker but not sure on the results lol. Apparently the property has BT Infinity 2 whatever that is.... I'm not expecting 200mb like my virgin connection but something over 8mb would be nice....

Thanks

Assuming that the line is in good order, then you should get about the 46Mb stated.

However, BT Infinity1 is up to 52Mb, so not worth paying the extra for Infinity2.

It also looks like Virgins available if you need it.

    The line:-

    FTTP on Demand, 330, 30, --, Available, --

refers to Virgin does it not? Apologies if that's not correct.

If you're going for fibre from anyone else than BT btw, it looks like the up to 38Mbps lines would be best as the up to 76Mbps offerings aren't going to get the most out of it. The BT up to 52Mbps is the maximum I'd look at (dependant on price of course).

I have no idea :rotfl: Virgin would be preferable given that I'm currently on 200mbps and anything is going to feel slow after that, I'll look into the virgin thing. Thanks for your help :beer:

When I check, the same shows for my exchange i.e. FTTP on demand. There is no way, even after Hell has frozen that Virgin will be available where I live!:p I assume, maybe incorrectly that it refers to BT fibre? https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Fibre-broadband/How-to-order-FTTP-on-Demand-when-availability-checker-says-you/td-p/912202

I don't think it does. "FTTP on Demand" means they will lay a personal fibre optic cable to your premises on request. And charge you the cost of it. Thousands of pounds. Really for desperate business's rather than individuals.

Bt's checker would not show Virgin or other non BT services.

Confusingly there is also a consumer fibre to the premises product where they cable up everyone in the area and you don't have to pay the cost of laying the cable. But that is much rarer.

But as everyone else has pointed out the VDSL bit is Infinity so thats ok.

Ahh, of course it is. Should have been obvious to me with hindsight.
