Working as a Courier driver with EU licence

Hello!

From courier companies, they asked to have UK licence and also to have it for at least one year.

Is there a work around to it, so that one can work with EU licence?

Thanks!

You!!!8217;re best off speaking to them as no one on here can backdate your licence a year.

I believe whey wont bother as they have tons of candidates. I was thinking if there is a document that can be present to them to enable someone to work.

The whole point of EU licences is that they have the same entitlements throughout the EU. All GB licences are EU licences.

I believe that their insisting on a GB licence is discriminatory. You need employment law advice, not a motoring forum.

Your eligibility to work and your entitlement to drive are two separate things. You will need to show both.

They would be more concerned with your immigration status and whether you are eligible to work in the UK or not. An EU driving license is valid in the UK.

Immigration status is not an issue for EU citizens, for now.

I believe they are concerned that they cannot see the history of an EU licence, the penalty points etc.

Is there a public service to advise on how one can be employed with a EU licence? Like an employment law service?

    No. Ask the potential employer.

I found acas.org.uk and gla.gov.uk, none of these are relevant?

No because your not employed by them yet.

Is demanding a UK licence and holding it for a full year before being considered actually discrimination?

I think there will likely be insurance issues with a non UK licence holder, it may not be cost effective to employ someone with a non UK licence.

Insurers can charge more for non UK licence holders. Are they guilty or just how the market works?

The workaround is get a UK licence and wait a year or find a company where that is not a requirement.

Exchange your EU license for a UK one. We're going to be leaving the EU in 10 months time at which point your license may not be valid to use in the UK.
