Simba mattress warranty issue

Highly rated & reviewed we purchased a Simba mattress from John Lewis earlier this year, despite an initial deeper sleep it took a few weeks to truly 'bed' in but all was fine. Simba advise to rotate the mattress 180 degrees initially after 4/6 weeks which we did, allowed a while to maybe 'bed' in again but am now waking up feeling like we've had a good kicking in the night & ache most of the day. We're just outside of the 100 night trial period unfortunately but wondering if we still have the standard 12 month warranty with John Lewis or it's all with Simba now.

When you say 'standard 12 month warranty' are you saying that John Lewis offers a one year warranty on mattresses?

Warrantys do not usually cover people disliking a mattress. They are for faulty itms or items that are not fit for their intended purpose, rather than change of mind purchases.

You have whatever warranty Simba gives you .
You have your consumer rights with the vendor John Lewis .
  • Asking as unsure whether a standard 12 month guarantee applies with mattresses, haven't changed our minds either. We rotated the mattress as advised but since doing so the mattress is no longer providing quality sleep, for either of us. Just need to know if anyone is aware of the law on mattresses, as I purchased from JL am I still covered for refund when just outside of the Simba 100 night trial ?

Sorry you keep saying standard 12 month guarantee.

Where are you getting this from? There is no generic 'standard 12 months guarantee' and I dont know if John Lewis offers one on mattresses.

I would be very surprised if you could get a full refund on a mattress you have used for 3 months. There is no 'law on mattresses' specifically

Why did you not keep track of your 100 days in order to get your Simba warranty claim? I doubt it started being problematic on day 101.

There are other consumer rights you MAY have but these mostly refer to faulty items, your mattress is not faulty you just dont like it anymore
  • I asked in my original post 'if' a standard 12 month warranty applies which is applicable on most items or, as this was a mattress things were different. No where have I said simply don't like it any longer, the mattress is no longer providing quality sleep, this having rotated it as advised by Simba so the item has developed a fault and / or is no longer suitable for it's purpose. Don't want to be splitting hairs over this, just asking if consumer law covers me for a mattress that has become faulty just after the 100 night trail period or have I just lost £600 in just over 3 months.

There is no such thing as a standard 12 month warranty which is applicable on most items.

You really need to speak to John Lewis about this, as your consumer rights do not extend to a 3 month try before you commit period for an item which is not faulty, and you have not established a fault by any means. You not being comfortable on it does not mean it is faulty. You had 100 days to establish you comfort level.

You say since you rotated it its been uncomfy, and that was after 5 weeks. Why have you waited another 7-8 weeks to do anything about it?

    You bought the mattress

you turned it after 4-6 weeks.

Didn't like it but gave time to get used to it again.

You are out with the 100 days- 141/2 weeks

Whether you turned it at 4, 5 or 6 weeks you should have turned at least once more in that time.

John Lewis have a 7 year guarantee on all mattresses except basic ones, but only against specific faults

    All John Lewis mattresses*

    This is a SIMBA mattress.
  • Speak to John Lewis. That's all you can do.
We exchanged ours that was a few months old as it had become so uncomfortable and had dipped dramatically.
They were fine and collected and delivered another.
They were their own brand orthopaedic so weren't cheap either.

John Lewis are usually pretty good so I would try your local store first and take it from there.

    Good luck!

Simba give a 10 year guarantee IF it was faulty.
