Outlook email "sent" folder and icon

I only use Outlook for my work email, and I've just been looking back through my sent items (the paper aeroplane icon) to check and see what I sent someone a few months ago in response to an email they sent me.
I couldn't find my reply, but was sure I did reply. I then noticed the "sent" folder, and found the email I sent in there...
Why is it in one but not the other? Why are there two folders? Did my email actually send? And if not, why not and where did it go?
Thanks in advance for any advice on this...

When you say you use Outlook do you mean outlook.com or the program itself, and if the latter what version?0

Oh. Apologies. I didn't know there was an outlook.com! I meant the program. The Apple version. Although I assume the PC version is a similar set up. Mine is 'Microsoft Outlook for Mac' version 16.13.1.0 -
Here's a screenshot of what I mean. I have a sent folder with the paper aeroplane icon, and then further down, a sent folder that doesn't contain the same things...

Looks like the sent (with paper plane icon) is equivalent to the old outbox. In other words if the message is in there it has not been sent yet.0

Hmm. I'm not sure that's right. I just sent myself an email and it shows in the plane icon 'sent' folder, but not in the other one.
The last email in the sent folder is from March. And I can't figure out the connection that all the messages in that folder have. I'm just hoping they aren't all unsent messages!0 -
Are you connecting to Exchange for your work email?0

I'm not sure what that means.... It says it's an "Exchange/ Office 365 account" so perhaps yes...0 -
It'll be an IMAP thing. Have a look through web mail.If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

Is there webmail for Outlook? Is that what you mean? Or some sort of webmail for my work email?
I've never used any kind of webmail... I just use Outlook or Thunderbird on my computer and whatever the email app is on the iPhone...0 -
Sorry-for work. So your email address is something like wallofbeans@yourcompany.com rather than @gmail.com. Or. @outlook.com ? If so, talk to your IT Dept.If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0
