The OP is saying this is the only property that will possibly suit. I am answering in kind, whilst also trying to offer some perspective on the situation.

Either it is, and they need to take it NOW, or there will be other ones, which they are saying there won!!!8217;t be...

Even if it is the only possible property that will suit,it is still not advisable to commit yourself to renting it for at least 6 months possibly longer without viewing internally.

There are almost daily threads from posters on this site who ask for advice on what to do or how to get out of a contract because where they have rented has not lived up to the expectation even after viewing.
To put up funds for a property unseen is a very big gamble IMO whatever the situation is regarding pets/children/or the OP's ability to rent a property.

It is always going to be a little unnerving renting for the first time but OP please physically view the properties that take your interest never rely just on the pictures and agents details/promises.

I cannot imagine many here who offer advice would not say "your fault for not viewing" if a similar question were to be posed some time later by the OP.

Again, I was trying to put it into perspective.

6 months isn’t the end of the world anyway especially if you would otherwise need to commute a long way with a dog, it also would allow the OP to get themselves settled in a new town and work out where they do want to live.

Realistically without offering more rent the only way for the OP to secure it definitely is to take it. Otherwise we cannot help with him getting g it, were not the landlords we don’t choose

Actually you raise a very good point there regarding 6 months tenancies.

OP you could ask for a longer tenancy anything from 12 months up to 3 years especially if there is no chance of you needing to move for a while.
Many LL's might be tempted by a longer term tenancy as it will give them the security of rent and less chance of a void period for a while.

Personally as a LL I don't like 6 month tenancies it creates more work for me and costs the tenant a lot of money in referencing and set up costs. it seems that just as you get settled you move on.

It may not be the end of the world to live somewhere short term albeit unsuitable ,far better to find the right place and stay longer!
