I had a clutch and dmf fitted at halfords autocentre in cheltenham on the 11th april picked car up on the 12th april was told tracking was done as subframe was dropped. Tracking wasnt done steering was all over the place also car had a very loud rattle on startup. took it back to get tracking done and to have them look into the rattle i had to leave the car there all day. Went to collect car tracking done but they said there is no rattle and to drive it for a few days to see if rattle gets worse. Rattle was getting worse so had to take it back again leave it for another day went to collect was told they cant here a rattle on startup. So i refused to leave until they found out what it was. 1 hr later they said its the flywheel is faulty and booked it in to be replaced. took it in was told should be done by the end of the day or early next day. 3 days later i heard nothing from them so rang to see whats going on. To my shock they said they cant replace it it has to go to vauxhall for diagnostic check. I said is this a joke you told me it was getting replaced and never told me it was going to vauxhall. 1 week later still heard nothing so rang up again was told it not gone it yet. 3 days later it went to vauxhall and within 20 seconds vauxhall said flywheel. Was then told there getting parts direct from vauxhall another week i heard nothing rang again was told its a week to get the parts from vauxhall so i rang vauxhall was told parts in stock. A week later car booked in again to replace clutch and dmf 2 days later got phone call saying the flywheel they put in was faulty again so they will have to do it again.then found out parts didnt come from vauxhall but from europarts. They replaced again and it still rattles was then told there is a faulty batch of clutches from europarts but it only rattles a bit and only sometimes but its fine nothing to worry about and if i need any info call europarts and there explain it to me. Rage set in and said its not my job to chase europarts its yours i paid you and i want my car perfect. Anyway called customer services they never phoned me back called again 3 times nothing. Last week got a call from the area manager saying its there fault and he will book it in to be replaced. And of course he never rang me back. This is been going on for 7 weeks and im getting know where. where do i satnd legaly been told by trading standards im intitled to compansation as its past 30 days and they might refund me and put it right for free How do i get through to someone who can sort this as customer services are a joke and dont get back to me.

sorry im not the sharpest tool in the shed lol long story short car been in for clutch replacement 3 times still not fixed. Vauxhall have confirmed its the fly wheel and suggest genuine parts only as they have loads of problems with off the shelf parts. Was told by halfords that parts will come from vauxhall they was not. 12 days in total with no car this has been dragging on for nearly 7 weeks.Whats my rights citizens advice said im intitled to compansasion but can i demand car be fixed and suggest they drop the labour costs as ive lost 10 days work as i travel from cheltenham to london

You can demand anything you like. Anything more than your true losses will likely get you nothing more than a good laugh.

What are your losses that your going to claim?

Seems straight forward to me - the repair is not of satisfactory quality because Halfords have used substandard parts.

I don't think you'll get any compensation but you should at least ask for your money back and get the repair done elsewhere. If they don't cooperate take it to the small claims court.

What car is it, What year is it? if it a insignia or Astra J these are known for this, Halfords probably fitted a chocolate Flywheel.

How do you know that? What brand of parts were used? You don't know as its not been mentioned.

ECP also sell genuine OE parts as well. Do you believe Vauxhall manufacture all their own parts? Just because its in a Vauxhall boxes doesn't mean they manufactured it.

I'd agree not to take your car to Halfords, and that the part could be non-OE, we don't know, but as it stands your statement is pure conjecture

  • got it sorted i emailed the CEO of halfords autocentre he was shocked by the autocentres way of handling it. He booked it back in he has said the area manager will be instore to over see the job is done right with genuine vauxhall parts and when job is complete will ring me and sort out some compansation for all the time i was without a car and work lost. So im happy now and it just shows it pays not to give up and go to the highest person in the company you can go to

Do let us know if the result is as good as they've said it will be.
