High costs for texting on current contract (O2)

Hi all
Any advice appreciated!

I'm in a contract with o2 and have been for some time. I'm on their 35 tariff but due to a change in personal circumstances am now using way more than my 250 text messages per month resulting in my last 2 monthly bills being £130+.
Unlimited texting would be ideal, but I understand I in the o2 contract til April. I called them today to see if they could help and was advised only option is to include bolt-ons to allow me extra text messages.
I asked if I could take out a new contract with them, and am happy to do this for 18months, but was advised will still have to pay remainder of this contract, even though in effect I'm then tied to them for 18 months rather than the current situation where I can terminate the contract in April.

Should I just accept what I've been told and sit out the rest of the contract (with bolt-ons) or try again to negotiate?

I think you can ring them and increase your tariff to a more expensive one which will include more minutes. I did this on behalf of a friend a while ago when he was on an unsuitable contract. They were happy for him to pay more line rental.

Incidentally, which tariff are you on?
