So we have a choice between dishwasher & handwash. Well if it is me that is having to do the handwash then I don't give a ***** what the financial consequences are - I go with the dishwasher. Which according to the stats on my dishwasher is probably cheaper anyway. But I actually in this instance DON'T CARE.

Precisely this. I read somewhere that those without dishwashers spend an average of three years of their lives washing dishes by hand. No brainer, imho especially as it would be (was) my life, not OH's, thus restricted.

How does that compare to the time people with dishwashers spend loading, unloading ... and for those that care about hygiene, cleaning the dishwasher?

What is your point about hygiene? Surely dishwashers are far more hygienic than washing by hand. They wash and rinse at 60C-65C and the contents come out spotless. Compare sparkling glasses with those hand washed.

If you need to clean the dishwasher(rarely needed in my case) there are cleaning preparations.

You could argue washing machines are too costly to operate - especially when we have a river and plenty of stones nearby;)

My point is that dishwashers need to be cleaned ... and that takes time :)

Please refer and comply with the instructions given in the user guide.

Obviously some people don't follow the manufacturer's clear instructions...

Fgs! Cleaning the DW takes a few minutes for the filters once a month if you soak and remove loose dirt before loading, as AndyPK and I do. As for cleaning the DW as a whole, how long does it take to peel a label from the top of a bottle cap, put the bottle in the DW and turn it on? About five seconds. I must have a lie down. :rotfl:

Fgs! Please refer to the user manual.

e.g. you are advised to clean the filters and spray arms at least once a week.

It's not just a case of "peel a label from the top of a bottle cap, put the bottle in the DW and turn it on"

There's actually a whole chapter that deals with maintenance and cleaning.

However, nice to see your post received almost immediate thanks from user 'Inner Zone'
Someone who last posted here over 4 days ago, and appears to have left again within 4 minutes of thanking you. .....

Some people here appear to have too much time on their hands, I fear. Perhaps it would be better put to use cleaning their dishwasher ...

It's probably costing a fortune in dishwasher tablets and rise aid though :rotfl:

Try W5 dishwasher tabs from Lidl - no need for salt or rinse aid. Each wash costs pennies.:)

If you rise the stuff off before loading, the DW doesn't need cleaning very often.

    months in between

I try to do it once a month (as per the manual for my DW) but don't go into a meltdown if it does not happen. I don't know who appointed Shavuot as DW cleaning police, do you? ;)

Good grief, I randomly clean it if it looks like it needs it and I can't remember when I last did, although I admit to just retrieving a piece of lemon grass and a fishbone from the filter.

Otherwise an occasional very hot wash and maybe an even more occasional treatment with a limescale remover. Cleaning the arms? I leave that to the OCD cleaners.
