Recently we flew from East Midlands to Dublin. At EMA there were slot machines dispensing the bags for, I think, 50p for two. At Dublin there was a woman giving them out for free as you approached security. That's rip-off Britain for you, I guess.

As for handbags, MrsS takes a small hanbag and puts it into her hand luggage to go through security. Then takes it out as soon as we are through. No-one ever objects to this.

Belfast & Edinburgh dish them out for free. I've got a box of the numbered tamper evident ones similar to those used by forensics/jails maybe I should knock them out on eBay :D

Belfast City 13th Oct I was the only person checking in at the time & I had a bottle of perfume. They gave me a bag at the X Ray machine just behind the BMI desks where you drop off rucksacks etc. Didn't see any vending machines if there are its a right racket and as Mr S says a prime example of rip off Britain.

If departing from the UK you can take ONE piece of hand baggage only through security. The bag must not exceed the normal hand baggage dimensions of 56x45x25cm (22x18x10in). There is no weight limit but you must be able to lift it in to the overhead locker un-aided. If you are carrying a laptop, handbag or similar this must be instead of the one piece of hand baggage, not as well as. Or, it must be inside the one piece of hand baggage. Normal policy on liquids and gels applies - must be in the 20 x x20 cm clear resealable bag in containers no larger that 100 ml and be in the single piece of hand baggage.

Some people seem to have maged to get more tahn one piece of hand baggage through security, but if you try it is a risk you'll be turned back and then have to check it (extra cost?) in or disgard it.

When retuning from the US/Canada their rules on liquids are as below:

    The North American liquid policy

The Transportation Security Administration in the USA and the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority relaxed the restrictions in September 2006 on the carriage of liquids through airport security searches on flights departing airports in the USA and Canada.

Customers may take with them in their cabin bag limited quantities of liquids, gels and aerosols, including travel-size toiletries such as shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel and hair spray. Containers holding liquids must not exceed three American ounces or 90ml. Liquid containers must be carried in a separate clear plastic zip-top bag that does not exceed 20cm x 20cm, or 8 inches x 8 inches, or quart size. Items must fit in the bag comfortably and the bag must be completely closed. At the security search, the plastic bag must be removed from the cabin bag and x-ray screened separately. Customers carrying liquids may be subject to secondary searches before boarding.

You can carry as much liquid as you like in your checked baggage subject to your limits. Also you can buy after security at the duty/tax free (joke!!) shops. Most airlines are not too fussed if you have your one carry on bag and some duty free as long as you do not take the p*ss.
