Universal Credit help please !!

Hi

Hoping someone with good knowledge can help me out as it's becoming worrying !! I have googled over and over but still no clearer.

So here is the situation
X2 adults
4 children 3,6,7,13
1 adult works and earns £21500 per annum.

Now from what I can make out the condition is one earring 35 X min wage and 1 earning 25 X min wage. So all in £468 per week, I am currently earning £411 per week.

So my question and confusion is as I'm nearly earning enough for both of us to meet the commitment will my partner be left alone or will they be mandatory to search for work etc ? I just really don't understand it at all.

Thanks in advance for anyone who has more in depth knowledge.

Go to Gov.uk/universal credit and check eligibility criteria.

If you have more than 2 children, you stay on legacy benefits e.g child tax credits, working tax credits.

At some point between 2019 and 2022, tax credit recipients will be migrated across to Universal Credit, where they should have 2 years protection i.e they won't lose out due to managed migration process for 2 years from time of migration.

Hucker's post is important because from the little you have told us you do not have to claim UC now.

Are you receiving any benefits at the moment? Tax credits for
    example?

Are you having to claim UC now and for what reason?

If you are looking to the future when you are changed to UC then the rules about working will be different because your children will be older/you might be earning more.

Please fill us in with the missing information then we may be able to help.

    Hi

Yes we receive child tax credit but not working. We've been told we will be migrated likely be next year to UC.

So where we live and having 4 kids etc it will be very difficult for my partner to work around this. Just trying to ace train how bad things will be with only me working initially.

    Thanks

OK, get ready for some reading!

    Look at this link:

You need to start with every section headed Claimant Commitment and then scroll down and read Light Touch Regime.

You will be getting WTC, you just won't be getting any payments of it because of your income. You are entitled to WTC.

On out award it just says child tax credit award and then working tax is £0.00. I would imagine if income declined we would be entitled to the working element.

Have read through all literature and still can't work it out. It seems as a couple I bring enough in for the AET. But then talks about claimant commitment. So I guess will just need to see what happens in time. As I cannot understand it and no one I've spoken to does either !

My calculation would suggest that if one of a couple is earning £21500, their non working partner would be in light touch regime.

The claimant commitment would be pretty relaxed, with a work related job centre appointment at the start of the claim asking about working, with any work search being voluntary. The commitment would also require the claimant to access their UC account online and to report any change of circumstances. UC could require someone in light touch to attend any sessions being run to help with readiness to work. Hence need to check UC online account any emails/texts received to see if any attendance is required for sessions being run.
