I have been offered a phone from my daughter. She got a new one. The old phone is a Samsung S6 edge. It needs a new battery. I have looked on line and can get a genuine Samsung one for £6. Would I be able to install it myself or would I need to get it installed at a phone repair shop?
I am not sure if it is unlocked. My daughter said it was 02. I have ee and she thinks it would work. Wondered if anyone can tell me, or could I get it unlocked for any network at shop?
Keep on trucking!

I know nowt about batteries, sorry.

If it's locked to O2, it won't work on EE

You need to get your daughter to get O2 to unlock it - google is your friend.

Quick look on youtube and the battery replacement looks tricky, but doable if you're patient, but I'd get it done in a repair shop personally.

Easiest way to check is to try a different sim in the phone, such as your ee sim and see if it works. If she had the phone on contract with O2, and it's now past the minimum contract term, they should unlock it for free (or a small fee), although there are companies who'll do it online, or again try your local repair shop.

are you sure £6 is a genuine one?

Tesco use o2, so if it is locked, that is a very good option

The battery is from Amazon so I assume it is a genuine one.

Is there a free method of unlocking the phone?

  • If your daughter had the phone on contract and shes finished paying for it she can phone 02 and tell them she is giving the phone to you and they will unlock it. I gave my Samsung S6 edge to my boyfriend cause I upgraded and they unlocked the phone so he can use it.
