Daughters Ex wants Money

Options
My Daughter and her boyfriend booked a holiday in March, for December, they have now split up, The Travel Agents advised changing the name on his ticket so a friend could go in his place and then the friend would give him the money back that he had paid, he was happy to accept this, but when the Travel agents contacted the Airline and the hotel they both said they would not accept a name change and if both people could not travel it would have to be cancelled, and no Refund would be given, as not all of the holiday had been paid so they have lost £300 As my daughter was the Lead name she agreed to cancel it as there was no other option. Her Ex is now demanding that she gives him his £150 that he has lost, as he says it was not his decision to break up and he booked the holiday because he thought they would never break up, Does she have any obligation to pay him, he agreed he did not want to go on the holiday just as friends, she has also lost her money and accepted that, this is just the way it is, shouldn’t he just do the same ? Surely he cannot demand money from her he agreed to cancel the holiday, Thank you any helpful advice would be much appreciated.

Tell him to go jump :) if he wants to try persue the money by going to court it!!!8217;s going to cost him more. And she!!!8217;s already paid £300 to cancel the holiday. Was he trying to force her to spend time with him by making her go on it instead of cancelling?

I find it highly unusual that they would not accept a name change. Normally something can be done, or was it simply that they would have charged extra?

Either way it is irrelevant, she has no obligation to pay him. They have both lost out, it should be left at that and they should move on. Who's decision it was to break up is irrelevant, he almost certainly had some part in it whether he wants to admit it or not.

It could be that he is using this as a way or forcing her to keep in touch with him, if this is the case and she does not wish to she should tell him her decision then block him or she may never manage to stop him contacting her.

Sorry to disagree with the other posters, but I think your daughter should cough up and pay her half of the lost deposit.

Your posts starts with 'my daughter and her boyfriend booked a holiday' indicating it was joint decision to book. It's hardly the boyfriend's fault that the airline won't agree to a name change. She was the lead passenger - she cancelled the holiday.

Decency and morals dictate that she should do the right thing.

she is out by £150 and he is out by £150.
why should he be refunded and her take the £300 hit?
    tell him to do one!
