Do I have to use a 12 month SIM only card straight away?

This might be a really stupid question...but basically my SIM Only contract with Vodafone is ending in about 6 weeks time. However I want to take advantage of a special offer on a Sim Only deal while it's available.

If I was to buy the Sim Only deal, can I hold onto it until my Vodafone 12 month contract ends in July, and then activate it? Or will it 'deactivate' if I hold onto it for that long without using it?

The contract will start when the sim is sent out and the network will start to take the payments.

You can't put a contract 'on hold' as soon as you get it.

Also, your existing contract doesn't end until you terminate it... ask Voda for a PAC and give the PAC details to the new network. Your Voda number will transfer to the new network and in doing so, it will cease the original contract.

Depends on the provider and the contract and the T&Cs. I think in some cases the contract starts when the SIM card is first used and therefore registered. This was the case with my BT Mobile contract which started in July 2017.

I don't see the problem: Put the new Vodafone sim into your phone and use it. It will then be registered and the contract starts. Then take it out and put your old sim into the phone and continue to use it.

However you will be paying the subscription for two contracts until the old contract expires.

It could actually be cheaper to end the existing contract early instead of paying two subscriptions. BT for example provides a discount on the monthly subscription if a contract is ended early.

You need to read through T&Cs and contact your provider(s) for further info.
