Moving out of rented accomodation. Check out fee???

Options
My girlfriend and I are moving out of our rented flat next month, and we have been told that there is a check out fee of £70.00 that will be taken out of our deposit, once we have left.

Surely this isn't right. How can they justify this charge, and will I get anywhere by asking them to justify/get rid of it??

Any help, as always, much appreciated.

I've seen these before. It is the fee for them to come out to the property and check/sign off the inventory and check for damage, sign the final "moved out/no damage" paperwork.

Yes it's cheeky/expensive, but they're a business. It sucks, but it's modern life.

Try to make the title describe the problem, rather than a simple "help please". :D

It's the same for us. Our letting agency's T&Cs state that there is a fee for check-in and check-out because they hire in an independent company to do the inventory checks. The landlord pays for check-in, we pay for check-out - in the interests of fairness. Ours was £75 plus VAT, so £70 is not too bad.
