Working Tax Credits - Moving House - Universal Credit?

Hi there, I’m new to the forum and am wondering how to find out whether a house move will mean my Working Tax Credits has to be changed to Universl Credit please?

My circumstances are:

I receive Working Tax Credits (joint claim with my wife)
No kids so no Child Tax Credits.
No Housing Benefit or any other benefits.

We are moving to a different Local Authority and the information about whether the house move ‘change of circumstances’ would mean a claim for Universsl Credit seems conflicting. Some websites say it would cause a Universal Credit claim and some say it wouldn’t.

I am concerned about losing the transitional protection and would be very grateful if anyone could advise me.

Thanks for your help.

Not unless you need to make a claim for housing benefit for this new house. If not you will stay on tax credits.

Unfortunately HMRC staff dealing with tax credits are telling people who move house and stiil do not require housing benefit, that their tax credits claims will have to close. The claim is closed, people claim UC and then find themselves worse off. Trying to rectify this HMRC error then becomes very difficult.

I would suggest people in this situation raise a mandatory reconsideration complaint in writing with HMRC and also send a copy to Universal Credit. If necessary people should get their local MP to intervene.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
