I don't think all DPF cars are equal here. One of mine has a DPF, and only does about 6000 miles/year with lots of short journeys, and i've never had a DPF issue in the 5 years i've had it.

Indeed. Mine rarely tops 6k, it was 3k last year. No DPF issues at all.

Sounds like you'll need to replace the 'other' part that has failed for a permanent repair, (get a quote elsewhere though, rather than a dealer?) but there are companies who will chemically clean the DPF off the car with good results -you could just get this done then sell, presuming you don't have (or can take the hit) on any negative finance equity

I was talking as a general rule of thumb. I couldn't be bothered to go through every possible driving scenario.
Its still wrong, dpf doesn't get blocked when the car isn't being used in the week! and 30 miles is plenty to get it warmed up. (the shortest journey he says he does)

Are you telling the op it will be fine? What is your advice to the op?

I took exception to your assertion that his drive cycle is the reason its failing and that he should have a petrol.

His car may well have another fault that is causing premature degradation of his dpf.

That's fine but what advice are you offering the op?

It's a 10yo car. There is no mention of the total mileage it has covered to date. The dealership have not refused to repair the car, as the title suggests, they have simply pointed out that the way the DPF has failed is outside of the terms of the warranty on the work they performed last year, since the failure is due to a mixture of usage patterns and fair wear and tear.

    to ignore your advice, plainly.

personally id be writing to head office to complain about the part not lasting as long as it should. but as has been said, there's probably another reason it failed so quickly (not his driving habits)
