cancel last part of trip without penalty

I am scheduled to fly from San Francisco to London-Heathrow and then continue to Manchester. My plans have changed and I am required to stay in London. How can I ask BA to change the destination of my luggage from Manchester to London without penalty?

Thank you for advice.

BA won't short check baggage without changing the ticket (which will incur costs)
    options
    • travel hand luggage only
    • travel as planned and return to London after arriving Manchester
    • Pay to change the return to end in Heathrow

Or if you have checked luggage you can no-show your flight to MAN and your bag will eventually be off-loaded.

While that might work, it is a bit selfish to disrupt and delay a whole flight for your convenience.

How long is your layover at LHR?

If it is long enough you may have success in asking for access to your bag. I've done it once before on a four hour layover. I just asked the check in agent and said I needed to access my suit.

Apparently it is possible to ask for your baggage to be offloaded - you do it in the baggage hall - which would be less selfish.
You'll end up waiting around for it.
