Panicking - weird thing happened on Ebay site!

I was browsing on Ebay and suddenly a window pops up from Microsoft saying congratulations I am today's winner of an iphone (or suchlike).

Thankfully I thought before clicking the OK button, but it appeared to have taken me completely off the Ebay site. I have just run a Malwarebytes (free) scan and it isn't showing anything.

Should I do anything else or is likely to be alright as I didn't click on the OK button?

This type of thing really worries me and I have to go back into Ebay to pay for something:(

Has this happened to anyone else?

Many thanks.

OMG! I ran a system restore back to 17/05/2018 which I thought might help, but ended up with an error code message oxc000022 saying it didn't restore properly. So then highlighted on the "undo" the restore and again got the same error message saying it couldn't bring it back properly.

I just don't know what to do now.

Please, any advice would be appreciated.

Things to remember when surfing the net:

*If you don't click on it, you have not opened it, so it can't hurt you.
*If it looks to good to be true, it is. Don't open it.
*Because it says that it's from Microsoft/your bank/any other source, does not mean that it is.
*No reputable company online will ask for any details of ID and/or bank details.

*If in doubt, leave the page. If still worried, close your browser and shut down or Restart your computer.

Do you have any form of Anti-Virus protection? Even Windows Defender is better than nothing.

Go back into Ebay and see what happens. Probably nothing.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Made the last post while you were typing. Read this link carefully and follow it to fix the error. Note that it is a Microsoft Community page, do not use some of the other "fixes" that can be googled.

Don't be hassled, take your time, this can be fixed if you read it carefully and follow instructions. I have to go now, will not be back until tomorrow. Good luck.

    Thank you.

I didn't click on the OK button, but it just took me away from the Ebay site onto something else.

I do have Kaspersky Internet Security and also the free Malwarebytes (which I have run).

Will my computer be alright to use despite there being an error on system restore? Well I am using it now I suppose:eek:

Seems this phoney Microsoft thing has been happening a lot on Ebay for some time, but I have never encountered it before.

I have to go back into Ebay to pay somebody, but think I will stay away from it for a while after that.

I followed the instructions and it seemed okay - under the general tab the start box was highlighted.

I don't really understand where to find the system tool checker though:o

As far as the MS (supposedly) pop-up goes, put something like the AdGuard AdBlocker extension on Chrome. That should stop them.

Well I seem to have completely mucked up my computer:(

I should have just closed down that stupid pop up on Ebay and forgotten about it, but I always go into panic mode.

I decided to do another system restore going back a bit further, which was all fine and no errors showing. However, then Kaspersky internet security wouldn't work and showed errors. So I decided to uninstall it and reinstall (even though an older version but I had a disk for it). That all went smoothly and I thought I had cracked it.

Unfortunately though Google Chrome would not (and still will not) launch and I just cannot understand why, it is totally bizarre. I tried uninstalling the Chrome program and then tried to reinstall it, but nothing happens at all - there is obviously something that has happened that won't allow it back into my computer:(

I can get online using IE, but that is awful.

Please can anyone give me an idiots guide of what I should try next.

Everyone tells me I am an absolute idiot and should have just left well alone!

Bottom line is I am terrified of computers:eek:

I have suddenly had problems with Chrome not launching as well.

I went online using IE and downloaded Firefox and which seems to be fine.

Like you I know nothing about computers and would welcome any advice as to what the problem might be.
