Incorrect Registration Number

Hi Everyone ,
Our car ws parked in the car park next to the train station at Inverness - it requires a person to insert your car registration number in before paying - When the driver got back to the car they discovered they'd put the incorrect number in - the driver didn't want to have to pay twice but kept the ticket in case they received a letter or a fine - the driver completely forgot about it until a letter arrived last Friday telling them they'd been fined £60 - it's a firm from Birmingham not the local Inverness Council - the driver is also disabled and lives on benefits and can hardly afford to pay £60 , this and the driver had already paid the parking fee !
There is an appeal form which the keeper will send off .
Any advice if the driver/keeper is turned down in the appeal ?

ok , you need to read the newbies section , and pay attention to the "scotland and NI" section
out of interest , who is this "birmingham" lot?
DO NOT even think about replying to them untill you have read and understood the differences in law between england and scotland !!!!!!!0 -
Skyehammer, you are advised to edit your post to remove any clues to the driver's identity.
It is especially important to never reveal the driver's identity in Scotland.
When describing events on the day there is no place for the word 'I'.
It was the driver who parked the car. It was the keeper that received the letter through the post.
Perhaps the first part of your first sentence should look something like:The driver parked the car in the car park next to the train station...Please review and adjust the rest of your post similarly.
Just to repeat what twhitehousescat has said:Do not send any appeal yet.0 -
OK thank you .0

post #1 still needs more editing
change a few more words to WE , or the DRIVER
anything that happened SINCE that day happened to the KEEPER
avoid the use of "ME , MYSELF & I"
WHICH PARKING COMPANY ISSUED THIS INVOICE ?0 -

Hi Guys ,
- the keeper of the car insisted on sending the appeal including a copy of the parking ticket [ with incorrect registration number ] - have since read that Smart Parking ignore all appeals - if this happens have you any advice ? Can't find the Scotland advice only the England and Wales one . .0 -
So you didn't see this in post #1 of the NEWBIES FAQ sticky thread:
Please help us to help others by suggesting how that could be made clearer.Q - ''I'm in Scotland/NI, so is the advice different?''
A - IF THE EVENT TOOK PLACE IN SCOTLAND OR NI, WE SUGGEST YOU DO (ALWAYS!) COMPLAIN TO STORE MANAGEMENT IF YOUR PCN IS FROM A RETAIL PARK, BUT DO NOT APPEAL, UNLESS YOUR CAR IS A COMPANY/HIRE/LEASED VEHICLE, IN WHICH CASE, APPEAL AS HIRER/LESSEE (SEE * AT THE FOOT OF THIS POST).
IN SCOTLAND/NI, DO NOT BE ALARMED BY ODD POSTS SUGGESTING YOU SHOULD 'NAME THE DRIVER'...FOR OBVIOUS REASONS THIS IS NOT THE MAJORITY VIEW AND SIMPLY ABANDONS THE DRIVER (USUALLY A FAMILY MEMBER) TO THE PARKING SHARKS, WITH A LESS STRONG DEFENCE. CERTAINLY COMPLAIN TO THE RETAILERS, BUT IGNORE THE PARKING FIRM UNLESS YOU GET A CLAIM. IN SCOTLAND THIS IS EXCEEDINGLY RARE, AND DEFENDABLE BY A KEEPER, WHO CURRENTLY HAS A FAR MORE PROTECTED POSITION IN LAW THAN AN ADMITTED DRIVER.
WHEN IGNORING IN SCOTLAND/NI, KEEP ALL LETTERS. DO NOT THROW THEM AWAY, FOR 5 YEARS.
Thanks.0 -
, the car park is next to the train station and has a path leading to it but it's also next to several shops . Does the MSE forum suggest the driver/keeper completely ignore the letter then ?0
