Moving home and broadband

We have just moved into a new property and when I contacted Plusnet to transfer our current contract across they informed me that it would start a new 18 month contract. Are they able to do this?
I originally wanted to cancel but they wanted to charge me £123 so I decided not to.

    Yes they can .
    See multiple identical posts .
    You are in contract and need to pay the balance outstanding or start a new contract is the norm .

    Don't know about the "norm" but Sky don't tie you into a new contract (although you do lose your phone number :( )

    You broke the original contract to supply at your old address, they are entitled to require you to pay the early cancellation charge and under no obligation to port the existing contract to your new address. So yes they can.

    Or with Plusnet, pay £65 and they will move the current contract to the new property.
    So
    1. it is free of charge if you agree to a new 18 month contract or;
    2. Pay £65 and the current contract moves with you so keeping the original end date or;
    3. Pay the early termination costs which you agreed to in the current contract.
    Moving Home
    If you start a new broadband contract when you move, it's free to move your broadband to your new home. You might need to change your broadband package with a new minimum term if you do that.

    If you want to carry on with the contract you've got at the moment, you'll need to pay £65 to move your broadband. If you need to have a phone line put in, it'll cost £49.99.
