A tiny bit worried...

I have agreed to pay £20 per week to help my mum out with lodge and something is going over and over my mind in case one day, I can’t afford to keep up the payments where I will say to my mum ‘I can’t afford it’
I’m just worried in case she kicks me out to be on the streets as most of the homeless are, or am I overreacting?

no , you just facing life kike all of us are.The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.0 -
I'm going to assume you're a young person and this is the first time you have to pay a bill?
I would consider paying keep normal, myself and siblings did from late teens when we could. £20 isn't much, but you need to budget accordingly.
You need to speak to your mum really. Personally I think it depends why you don't have it. Going out and drinking it all would be different to having to buy a pair of smart trousers for an interview for example.
I think she's just trying to introduce you to financial realities, eventually you'll be responsible for bill's.
Tbh I'm not really sure what the question is?0 -

I pay two bills currently; one for my mobile phone and the other being my credit card and now £20 per week on rent for my mum.
It wasn’t a question, I just needed someone to clarify for me which you did, thank you. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If you are working or on benefits the priority is to pay for the roof over your head and for food i.e. Your £20 lodge money. Which is very cheap, by the way, you'd not get it for anywhere near that anywhere else. (I am presuming that your mother is asking for money because you have an income of some sort.)
In what circumstances do you envisage not being able to pay? Because if it's for booze, fags, mobile phone contract, socialising etc, then its back to priorities again. And your mum would have every right to feel aggrieved. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

To be fair, I am more of a private person so am not the person who goes out every weekend when asked by my work colleagues because I never do due to financial troubles, so my money is spent on me for work lunches, mobile phone contracts, credit card bills and maybe even clothes.
I get £1,000 a month, so there is no reason why I wouldn’t be able to afford the measly £20 a week. It’s just the ‘what if’ as in what if I get made homeless if I turn around to her one day and say ‘I can’t afford it’ and get made homeless?

1. you should not expect to live anywhere for free.
2. putting mobile phone and clothes above roof over your head is unbelievable
3. you having card bills signals you can not budget.
4. I hope you will grow out of being the way to are and I feel for your mum.The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.

That’s a daft statement, so you want me to get in to more debt and miss my mobile payments?

You put savings aside to cover emergencies. If you lost your job you would sign on. If your debts are getting bigger then you need to take steps now to ensure they never get to the point where they're not affordable. Or you default on your mobile bill/credit card payments in order to ensure that you have somewhere to live. That payment would come before all other spending.
So unless you have zero income there wouldn't be a point at which you couldn't afford it. Because having somewhere to live comes first. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

gP.S. £2O sounds more like yur share of bills , not even "lodge"
no , I do not want you do do anything - it makes no difference to me.
I am pointing out that getting a mobile contract or using phone at all beyond emergency calls comes after getting a roof over your head in priorities list.
It is honestly very worrying that you do not even see how unreasonable your stance is, oeoole with this understanding of money , priorities and responsibilities should not have an access to credit cards.
hopefully in a few years you will remember how you were and will be astonished about it as well. The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.

£20 a week is chicken feed. Technically you have no legal right to reside in your mothers home unless you are a joint tenant or, if the house is owned, you are a registered owner at the HM land registry so £20 or not, you could be told to leave at any time. Maybe its time to plan your future and your home?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
