If you're being pedantic then the thread title is completely wrong and you didn't pick up on it.

Well you're right...I only picked up on the one I did because it was a snide little dig at the OP for no reason anyway.
  • If I was the OP I wouldn't do anything to antagonise the employer. In fact I'd write them a nice 'thank you' letter when I received the money for the train fare.

they might have a job I was suitable for in the future.

I had an interview last year; before going I said that there were a couple of things in the job spec which I did not have experience of, but I was specifically interested in.

I had a phone interview and it went really well.

They then came back and asked me to go to site for a face-to-face interview; well, it took me 2 hours on the train and when I got there the reception didn't know about me. After a while someone came and they turned out to be a substitute interviewer. We went through my c.v. and I explained where I was and so-on.

After I got home, I had feedback that they wouldn't be proceeding because I wasn't experienced in the couple of things I'd originally mentioned.

Well, that was a waste of a train fare and a day.

A few weeks later, I got another call saying that the same thing had happened in other interviews, so would I like to go back and have another try. I said I'd think about it, but I decided not to bother.

Then, yesterday, I was contacted by them again, saying they'd looked at my LinkedIn profile and I'd be ideal for the role!

Hmmm - let me think about that...
