Argos refund never arrived. Whats the next step?

So on 6th May I ordered an iPhone and it was delivered to me fasttrack. Upon arrival, it turned out to be faulty. Contacted Argos who said they would collect it on 7th.

On 7th they came collected the phone and refunded me, I received an email saying I had been refunded. The driver said the refund would take around 3 days.

11th No refund so I contact Argos, I was told an error had occurred putting it though, they put it through manually and I was told 3-5 working days. So yesterday 17th I contact Argos to be told 5 days, it will be in tomorrow. Well, its now 18th and still no refund.

Whats the next step? Contact Barclaycard my issuer? I am fed up chasing after Argos to be palmed off.

I have returned items to the store before using this card and its always been in the following morning which I remember thinking was super quick.

Although slow they will refund you eventually. Give it another couple of days and see what happens.

They get 14 days to issue a refund and there has been a bank holiday right at the start of your countdown so it is another few days yet before there could be a problem

I think he may have meant it will take 3 days to start the refund process, as in they take the phone back, check it etc...

The way it worked was the driver checked everything on my doorstep, he then put a barcode on and scanned it. As soon as he done that I got an email saying I've been refunded.

When you buy something with a card the money doesn't get to the other side instantly. It can take 3-5 days until the funds actually clear in their account, then only send out goods before it's cleared because they use card processing companies to do a pre authorisation on the money so they know they will get it. If you ordered and paid on the 6th which was a Sunday and the 7th was a bank holiday Monday the absolute earliest the money would clear in their account is Tue the 8th but more likely to be the 9th or 10th. They cannot refund you until the funds have cleared and they can reverse the transaction. That can then add another 3-5 days while it clears in your account. Although you got an automated message on the 7th it was a bank holiday so incredibly unlikely that it was actually processed that day.
  • It's Argos. They are not going to criminally rip you off. Give it a couple of days and then contact them again if it hasn't come through. The time elapsed so far is nothing.

I got this message again from them. Needless to say still no refund. Its the fact I just keep being told the same thing over and over or they ignore you, they don't seem to know what to do.

    Hi Dave, I've checked our transactions related to your order, and it appears that due to a system error, this refund was never fully processed. I've attempted to re-issue this for you manually; if you could check back with us tomorrow morning for a status update we'll be able to ensure this gets fully resolved for you. -- !!!7431;!!!671;!!!671;!!!618;!!!7439;!!!7451;

An update folks. Well nothing ever arrived from Argos. They just kept going over the same script. "An error occurred during processing your refund, I have done it manually and it will be in your account in 3-5 days" and repeat 4/5 times I think.

I contacted Barclaycard and reported the issue, they sent me out forms, filled them in last week and noticed they have clawed the money back this morning.

Tell them you want the ARN number when they refunded it, So you can get your bank to trace it for you. They should be able to do that. Or ask to speak to a manager or something at argos.

I don't think refunds need to take as long as we're led to believe.

I ordered an item, paying with my Halifax credit card, on Sunday 27th May.

Unfortunately the item was the last they had in stock and before dispatch they discovered it was damaged.

A refund was made to my credit card on Monday 28th May (a holiday) and hit my account the following day.

All the guff about refunds taking 5 working days is to with internal processes within the retailer.
