a tow bar is also classed as modification on insurance

It is. When I declared mine, the premium went down.

    Sometimes.

The last time I had one fitted they weren't interested.

    And that's the key.

If you tell 'em, and they aren't interested, the premium is unchanged.
If you tell 'em, and the premium is changed, they needed to know...

When you go to Tesco's website for a car insurance quote, before you even start to get to the detail, they say...

If you went through a comparison engine, they ask a very similar question, and offer very clear explanations of what they mean. For example, the Meerkats ask...
When you hover your mouse, a pop-up explains...

So, with all that in mind, were you absolutely 100% honest - truth, whole truth, nothing but the truth - when you took the policy out?
What did you say to those questions? Because, let's face it, your mods do not really allow you to say it's unmodified, do they?

They're all utterly trivial stick-on tat (what is an "Enderman", and why is it glued on?), but you still need to be absolutely honest to your insurer. Add them together, and you have a situation that implies something about the policyholder's demographic and their likely attitudes. And THAT is why insurers - especially of young drivers - ask.

Makes me wonder whether or not the quite fashionable de badging (model deletion) has to be declared and as such is classed as a modification.

You do realise your ice will not be covered for theft?

Depends on the insurance company - I rang mine up when I was changing the CD player and was told that ice mods were not notifiable. I was automatically covered for x amount (cant remember the exact amount).

As for mods, it doesnt always make that much of a difference. I fitted roof bars and side steps to one of mine, rang them up and the difference was only £17 over the year. Much better than running the risk of something happening and then not being covered.
