    By far the best option is to ensure that you write to the supplier either by e-mail or snail mail (recorded delivery) and to retain copies of all bills, especially the final one for at least six years. It's hard to prove a phone call unless you've recorded it.

    You don't have to keep physical documents but save them as a PDF file.

    I've been swapping suppliers since 2010 and so far I'm on my 9th, soon to be 10th when I escape from the IRESA/Octopus situation. I have copies of all my bills, statements & E-Mails, kept both on my hard drive and a USB stick.

    You never know when you might need your own evidence.
