Storage Heater nasty smell

Hello everyone

Can anyone help me please? I have a rather old storage heater which has started emitting a nasty, chemical sort of smell. It is so strong that I have had to tun off the heater but as it is now getting colder...

The smell started one evening (so wasn't on charge) as far as I can tell, the thing still warms up as I turned it on for a few minutes after midnight the other day and I could feel warmth (along with the smel!l). I am hoping someone can give advice before I take it to pieces and sit looking at it and scratching my head for an hour!

Thanks

Danny

  • This happened to us with our central heating boiler, turned out to be a plastic toy wedged behind it which was melting.

Turn it off at the mains and unscrew the front cover. It might be obvious what is causing it. Hoover out the dust from inside whilst the cover is off too, and don't do what I did and forget to switch it on again! It's freezing in the mornings!!!
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!
