Wanted : auto cat feeder with more than 4 meals

Hello,

We have an automatic cat feeder with room for 4 meals. As the first meal is available straightaway, this effectively means 3 meals in the future, i.e. we can be away for 1.5 days.

Now whilst we wouldn't go away for days on end and leave our cats to themselves, about once a year we find we need an extra compartment or two. We end up having to get someone to come in and feed them - which is inconvenient and we don't like asking, as they do not live nearby.

I'm looking for an auto cat feeder which has more than 4 compartments, but I am struggling! I know they exist, as I've seen them before in gadget catalogues, and recently saw them in the US with up to 9 compartment (we don't need quite this many!)

But I can't find one now I want to buy one - can anyone help? Thanks.

Do they run on a standard plug socket? Could you get another 4 meal feeder and put it on one of those timers meant for lights to come on when you are out? You cab get 7 day timers like that. Not entirely sure it will work as I have never used an auto feeder but its just a thought

    Hi floyd,

Afraid not, it's clockwork, so no power/batteries or anything unfortunately.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.

How about a cat visiting service? They will feed, groom & love your moggie while you are away! Surely your cat's litter will also need to be changed & your cat will probably be craving some human company. If it is only for a day or two then it's a small price to pay for a happy cat!
nothing to see here, move along...

we use the C50 which allows for 5 meals over 96 hours.

Personally I'd just put out a load of extra biscuits as well as the timed feeder.
Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early :D
  • Try this web site http://www.autopetfeeder.co.uk. They have one which will take wet food. Or there are a couple of places that do dry food ones for days. Good luck

Please don't leave the cat for longer, it could get ill or injured also, not just the litter tray (If it's not an outdoor cat). If it has a collar, which I hope it doesn't, that can get caught in the cats mouth (Yep, even when correctly fitted & safety/quick release), the cat could get very sick (One cat we had got FIP & went downhill like lightening & another had a brain illness like Meningitis that came on while we were on holiday & had to be PTS)

Not meaning to scare you or say it's wrong as such, everyones different, but even able bodied humans (Who can reach for a phone) can have accidents, the cat could break a leg or anything also.

And like has been mentioned company. PLus i'd worry the cat would think it'd been abandoned, you wouldn't leave a child (I hope!) alone so why a cat?

My sister uses the c50 as well, but she still has someone popping in to spend time with them during the day, but it ensures they get fed at their regular times as well. I have to agree with UKTigerlilly, it's a long time to leave them completely alone.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

maybe a dried food dispenser can suit your purposes - USA has them that will feed for a week. Personally I wouldn't leave mine for that long tho - they would get very upset/unhappy.

someone linked to this site in another email - https://www.petsitterswap.com

its aim is to put pet-owners in touch who live in the same area and who would be willing to pop in and feed your pets for free - and vice versa.

not sure how safe it is. i did register and a lady contacted me who has cats like myself who needs occasional pet-sitting, we haven't exchanged addresses or anything but she lives a couple of roads away. we have both admitted that we would be nervous using a complete stranger but we could always meet for coffee and check each other out, establish a rapport, see proof of ID that sort of thing beforehand. not even sure yet that this is for me - my paid cat-sitter is great and works for my vet anyway - but it is an option to explore so thought i would pass it on.
