I was thinking of getting phone insurance for my new phone but their proof of usage seems a bit onerus, onerous, and definitely could not be done whilst abroad with no phone
Insure&go: If we also decided that we would require a proof of usage, you would need to be obtain this document from your service provider, they will need to confirm the date and time of the first and last use of the handset.

Looks like I will be self insuring again
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

It's the old story, no insurance company makes it easy to claim, but then, there are so many fraudsters out there.

It could be done while you're out of the UK (maybe). You would need to ask your network to get the TAP file from the network you roamed on. This details the info from your phone. The problem is, some overseas networks take months to supply them ( and some won't supply them at all).
