Although someone on here said it is under-handed, there's a couple of instances where as a seller, it's very useful, for example, to re-attempt delivery where the buyer gets a refund then goes to collect, a problem created by the timescales and items aren't coming back from Royal Mail as quick as they aim / stated they would (up to six weeks it seems)

what timescales do Rm state for returned items?
Returns are treated as low priority in the network

Racking my brains but I believe it changed when the delivery attempts changed to just one, and it was put down to 14 or 15 days. However, someone can raise a case as soon as the delivery due date is up and escalate within 7.

The retention period is 18 days, that has nothing to do with return timescales
its was 21 days and 7 days for recorded delivery if you want to go as far back as second deliveries!
You are talking over 15 years ago........

I'm talking about two delivery attempts which only went out a few years ago, although this has nothing to do with my point.

Well Im not sure what you are talking about. There has never been a '2 delivery attempt' set up in the last 'few' years.

Hi- why would you arrange the redelivery for a buyer as you cant be sure that they will be at home when you organize a redelivery?

Because it is preferable to it sitting at the DO forever and a day.

When you send an item you don't know if someone will be home, that doesn't stop you sending it.

    It says not recognised.
I didn't know I could put the proof of posting ref number in RM website untill I read this thread but its not working for me.
Has the code got 1/I or 0/O in it? I find it's quite difficult to know if they are numbers or letters on the PO receipt. You could try the code experimenting with different combinations. I don't know why they don't avoid these characters in the reference numbers.

You were right - I was putting in a nought but it was really a D.
It is now saying on RM website it will be updated when item has been delivered. It is about 7 days now and am getting nervous as the buyer had only joined the day he bought my item (no feedback) and had a really obscure username ie all numbers, letters and dashes.
I put the"tracking" code in ebay and really wish I hadn't as it is still showing as undelivered and it might possibly have been delivered so an unscrupulous buyer could take advantage of that.

Adding tracking codes always runs this risk. RM aim to hit 99%+ on 2D scanning.
The downside of 2D barcodes is they are very sensitive to damage/poor printing/positioning(you still get people putting barcodes over the edges of packages)/applying eg creases on the label.
If it doesn't scan it doesn't scan. Its not like the 1D barcodes where you can fall back to a manual input 13 digit code.
