Cancelling a SIM-only contract in the cooling off period

I signed up to a 1-month SIM-only contract with iD Mobile 4 days ago. I phoned my current provider the day after to cancel my contract with them, however, they offered me a better deal so I decided to stay with them. Contacted iD Mobile on the same day to cancel my order with them, but they told me they had already dispatched the order, but they would cancel the contract straight away and the SIM will become a PAYG SIM. I went through my emails yesterday and noticed an email from iD Mobile saying they will collect a DD in two weeks' time (the amount due is the monthly cost of the contract). I received the SIM today, but haven't used it.

Are they allowed to charge me the monthly cost even though I cancelled in the cooling-off period (and I haven't used the SIM either)?

FYI, I ordered the SIM online, so the cooling-off period should be applicable here. The contract mentions that you have to give 30 day's notice to cancel the contract, but I am not sure if it is relevant in my case.

I wonder if the operator didn't cancel the sim, ring up again and check its been cancelled.

    Thanks!
I called them, and you were right, they hadn't cancelled it. Strange because the guy I talked to a few days ago assured me that he closed the account.
Hopefully it is all sorted now.
