How to avoid being build twice

Hello
So I maybe being thick but everytime I want to leave my broadband provider i.e this time PlusNet and join my new provider John Lewis.
I have had to pay my usual monthly PlusNet bill and now I have had to pay the John Lewis bill. So my monthly bill is now £60!
I assumed that like mobile phone providers when I switch it would be seamless and the two companies would actually talk to each other !
Cheers
Paul

It is just like mobile phone providers. You have to give your departing company 30 days notice but usually your new provider takes over within 14 days. So there is an overlap. You could have asked JL to delay your line takeover until nearer the end of the 30 days to minimise the double paying.
You may find that you are due a pro rata refund from PN if your 30 days notice was across 2 billing periods.0
