Do you have any boot sales or charity shops near you? I picked up lots of little bits and piece for only a few pence. Most toys look like new with a bit of a wipe and once wrapped no-one will know.

    Good luck.

I have done really well in Charity Shops this year. Have picked up operation, buckaroo and guess who for a £1 each. A bag of books for £2.50 for 20 books! Various bits of costume jewelry etc. The list is endless to be honest and you wouldn't know they were 2nd hand.

I always put a comic / magazine in stockings for mine - it gives them something light to look through while you are making dinner

get yourself to bargain madness etc, loads of good stocking fillers there.
spotted today little japanese toys that answer your question by shaking their head or nodding (like a version of magic 8 ball!) very cute, nice packing, look much more expensive than their 49p!

Thats a bargain as I got some of those last year reduced to £3 from £8!

WOW you are all so amazing I have tons of ideas now and I know my youngest daughter, 22, will love shopping with me. As a family we have decided to make this a fabulous fun christmas. Thank you Thank you Thank you ((((((HUGS))))))))

Any ideas where I can get an inexpensive kit for niece to make a bracelet. I have thousands of beads but all minute and also they are quite expensive for a child to play with.

  • For the younger ones, paint some fun (uncooked!) pasta shapes and make holes in them with a needle (before you show them to the kids) the bows can be tied on with wool, these make a fun start to jewellery making.. You can also get little jewellery making kits - none on ebay at the moment but they're always in places like Argos and Woolworths so might turn up soon - actually, definitely try The Works. Usually just a kit with some plastic beads about 1/4 of an inch size in different colours, some flower, animal shaped beads etc, and they provide either elastic or neon coloured string.

I don't know where you are but in most city centres there are bead shops which sell beads separately (I assume you are familiar if you have beads yourself!) they will probably sell a kid's starter kit.
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right

Nearest bead shop is Yum Yum in Leeds, never thought of buying seperate beads for her. I also probably have some larger beads that she can have. She is age 9 in understanding only girl in a male home, must keep her little girlie side going.

  • Get some ordinary beads from places like the works or staitionary shops! usually about a pound a bag! plenty in them! and some black leathery type twine from the fabric shop or market! thread the beads and tie one knot just down from the end of the other side and the tie another knot with the end around the original! it will then slide to adjust the length!
    (end or string)x

Not sure if I get this but I will work it out as I am quite creative and my husband will persevere if I fail. Thanks so much for the idea I think I will do that one as well as many of the others. You are all amazing.

For the beads you could get one of the little compartment boxes that screws come in normally (see sweetie box thread for ideas of where but woolies def have them), and fill it with supplies from your local bead shop. Would be a lovely starter kit and she could then use it to store all her bits and bobs in.

Remember to put a tangerine in all their stockings!! I do this for my son and he loves it!!
