USA (Orlando) to UK (Gatwick)

Hi,
The reason for the changes below are that my wife (US based) has had her spouse visa approved much quicker than we thought, so my question revolves around ditching a current return flight I have booked on Virgin, as well as wanting us to be on the same flight for her one way flight (with me) to the UK on 18th June.
So I am tied into Virgin a bit, but will ditch my (well priced) return in order that we can get onto the same flight if needs be. Most flights seem to want an arm and a leg for one way flights...
I'm discovering that one way tickets are horrendously expensive (Like £1500 compared to a £400 return) compared to returns, so was looking into return flights; originally I was going to book a return from the UK to USA, and not use the outward portion but from what I've read the T&C's of tickets say the entire return will be cancelled if the outward portion isn't used, so they're onto that one by the looks of it!
I'm going to look into returns departing FROM the USA and ignore the return portion of that ticket...
I'm looking for US based flight comparison sites as despite using a VPN set to the USA I keep getting UK search site results.
Maybe I'll need to ditch my own Virgin return next month and start over so we can both be on the same flight, but any advice or thoughts welcomed.
So to summarise, I'm looking at cheapest flight (direct) for two adults (with 3 cases) to get from Orlando to Gatwick 18th June
Thanks

Can't you consider other FL airports? Tampa, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale?.....0

Hadn't thought of that. We'll be car-less by that stage so would need to factor in Uber...0

Look at a low-cost carrier like Norwegian Air. They price per flight so will not charge a premium on a non-return ticket.
They do the Orlando to LGW route.
No flight on the 18th, but the price for two of you with bags on the 19th would be £530 all-in.0 -

This is the solution here I think.
The Virgin Atlantic flight you’re booked on the 18th is very expensive now, even when booking a MCO-LGW-MCO return. So if you really want to travel on the same flight then you’re going to need to forget that one.
The Norwegian flight cubegame has found appears to be the best one, and a good price which is cheaper for new tickets for both of you than booking a new flight for your wife only.
If you really must fly on the 18th then Westjet have a similar price connecting in Toronto.0
