Goods finally arrived ... after 3 months!

So, three months ago I bought an item from France for approx 15 Euros. I sent cash to the seller, and a few days later received positive feedback. After a few weeks, and no sign of the item I sent a polite email to ask if it had been posted. He said it had been sent shortly after my payment arrived.
I waited a few weeks longer, but no sign of it. I checked the seller's feedback and sales, and there seemed no indication that he would be the sort to pull a scam, so I let it be, presuming that the post office had lost it.
So today, over three months later, up turns the package - postmarked 20th July from France. It has a RM label on the front marked "addressee gone away" (despite the fact that the house has not been unoccupied for even a day during this period .. and the package was easily small enough to go through the letterbox anyway!)
All's well that ends well, I guess. But I'm pretty unhappy with RM at the moment ...

Full address and postcode, in neat curly handwriting. French stamp is dated 20/07/07. Royal Mail red label is dated 25/7 with some kinda squiggle for initials that could be anything. Also some post-mark on the back for "Evian-le-bains, Haute Savoie" at 3.30pm 23/8/2007. No other markings. Very odd!For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0 -
that is very strange given its been sent straight back.
im going to guess its been simple human error.perhaps a driver has been labelling a packet as addresee unknown and labled the wrong one.
once its labled its given to the phg's to organise returns and they dont check it.
once its labeled its marked and returned.
i had a postie do the same to me once with recorded letters where instead of putting the stickers for a card being left he put the return to sender labels!
luckily a customer came ot collect one before i returned them and i saw the mistake0
