I know i'm being daft but...

My little girl had the MMR jab on tuesday, i have had my reservations about it and my son didn't have it till he was 3. my little girl is 18mths and so because he was fine i didn't hesitate with her. However, she seems different since she had it, she hasn't slept properly (normally she sleeps 7-8 with a 2 hour nap in the day) she hasn't pooed (normally she is very regular) and she continually makes a high pitched screaming noise., she just doesn't seem herself. My DH thinks i am just being paranoid and i know that if it hadn't been for the jab i would put it down to a phase, but just need some reassurance. Sorry if thats a bit babbled

Usually its a week after the MMR that they start to get a bit of fever.

I'd phone your GP anyway as she may be a bit constipated and if her tummy is hurting could explain the screaming and not sleeping.

Thank you i assumed that they would get a fever straight away, it didn't help that when my sister came round yesterday and when i said she was off because of the MMR jab she said "that'll be the autism kicking in!!"

Your sister is an idiot. (and that was the censored version !! I live with autism in my family on a daily basis-thank God I don't have a sister like yours)
If you have concerns about your daughter's health take her to the doctor-no messing.

The link between Autism and MMR has more or less been de-bunked.

Plus, even IF there was a link, I very much doubt it would happen in under a week!

I think it's far more likely that she has been upset by the jab, is a bit constipated and has a sore tummy. Or getting a bit of a cold!

Hope she gets well soon. Try not to get too worried!

ps, I had a MMR a few months ago as I'm in the age group that didn't get it as a child and at risk of mumps. I did feel a bit 'off' for a few days, like I was coming down with a cold. But I also had measles as a child and remember it, it was horrid!

Thank you i completely agree with the sister being an idiot remark my husband was on the verge of throwing her out of the house afterwards and his remarks were not so censored! I know in my head there is no link between the MMR and autism but all the scaremongering does leave a slight unease at the back of your mind!!! I worked with many autistic children in my other life as a special needs teacher and you can't help but look for similarities in your own kids.

This isn't the place for it but just to note I don't agree. Perhaps another thread another time we can debate that one :)

you did the right thing in getting your child immunised. too many parents these days are ignoring vaccinations and it is going to cause huge problems in the future with deadly diseases reemerging..tb a prime example being on the increase already.

the paper linking mmr and autism that the media took to be gospel has been proved time and time again to be inaccurate, and the scientist who conducted the study to be unethical in his procedures, with professional misconduct charges to his name, and using inaccurate results.
as for his suggestion of giving the vaccine in 3 single doses? the whole mmr vaccine has been trialed and proved to work with the levels of disease that are mixed together.there has been no evidence that i have seen that would suggest any additional benefits in giving them in single doses.

it is much more dangerous to not have a child vaccinated. these vaccines have been developed for a good reason...if not immunised against, these diseases cause huge problems and can kill. surely the benefits outweigh the minimal risks incurred?

i heard a ridiculous story of a local family in which a child got measles, and the parents thought it would be a wonderful idea to have a "measles party" for them and their friend's children, the result of which being a young girl became seriously ill.

the vaccines are made with levels of disease organism that will not cause disease but promotes your immune system to remember the organism incase you come into contact with it in future, and it can be dealt with without causing serious harm.

    (pro vaccine rant over.sorry!)

for your case though, as vaccines are weakened strains/levels insufficient to cause disease, the child can often present mild symptoms of the disease, usually fever type illnesses and i would expect this to be what is happening to your daughter. however, if you are still worried there is absolutely no harm in speaking to your daughters doctor for reassurance. as she is not feeling well, the noises she is making are likely just to be her way of expressing the discomfort she is feeling. :o

I can't let this lie I'm afraid - posts like this help spread the seeds of doubt in parent's minds while craftily avoiding a debate.

The reality is that the "scientific" papers linking MMR & autism have been comprehensively debunked - see kdf987's post for a reasoned analysis.

I should declare an interest as a parent of a child who was immune compromised at an early age and who could have been killed by either measles or mumps. He therefore benefited from the herd immunity given by vaccination.

    Hi,

I dont want to start a heated debate and I realise this is a very hot topic, but I couldn't read and not post.

My younger brother, who is now 12, had the MMR at normal age. I was 15 at this time, quite a big age gap. We knew nothing then about the links to Austism so I can only tell you what we witnessed.

About 1/2/3 weeks after the jab, he just was not himself. Simple. Before the jab he was crawling and progressins well, starting to say words and do actions. After the jab...he just stared into space and did a high pitched loud scream all the time. It was very strange. My Mum took him to the doctor as soon as she noticed, she said she just knew something wasn;t right. They told her she was being paranoid because of the age gap.

This went on for years til he was about 4/5. he didn't speak a word until christmas Eve when he was 5. It was during this time that he was at a special nursey school and one of his 'teachers' who was totally unqualified decided to tell my Mum 'oh but dont you know hes autistic'. So, we went on the internet and the whole family got upset at what we read.

hes now 12, he cant stop talking..but he goes to a special school and has learning difficulties aswell as mobility issues.

Until this day, my Mum, me and my sister know that something changed in him after the injection. I cant prove it I know, but we all feel it. There was nothing else around that time that was any different and the change was very swift.

I am just saying that no matter how paranoid or irratic you feel it is always worth trying to do something about it as you never know, it may help.

I hope it is nothing, but it is good that you notice changes.
