Most new build flats come with a communal sky dish nowadays, and the owners are usually given a piece of paper saying who to contact (locally) if you want it connecting. I didn't bother connecting mine, because as moneysavinmonkey says, it's a waste of money!!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

how much have you spent over the years?
    - why is this not a waste of money? ie what makes you say it is great?
  • Everyone is entitled to an opinion on the service so I'm not going to get into a flame war about whether its a waste of money or not, it's personal preference.

Anyway: After realising its a communal dish, I called and told Sky this. The woman told me that its highly unlikely the sky engineer will touch a communal dish and I'll need to use a sub-contractor.
I had a think and thought best to cancel now and re-order with contractor instead of waiting. I tried to cancel installation, but the cancellation guy then kept stating that the engineer would install no matter what and that to keep me they would offer free installation and a free Sky+ box.

Question now is, will the Sky engineer install to a communal dish? or was I just told this by cancellations to keep my order. As discussed in this thread I can't have a new dish put up in the apartment so need the engineer to connect to the communal one.

    Thanks.
  • i was rather looking forward to getting into a nice debate about the cost of sky but i don't want to hijack the OP's thread...

I asked why you wanted sky as there are loads of alternative to paying sky for movies/sports etc which i would happily have shared in the spirit of this moneysaving site.... nevermind.

In any case I rather suspect moneymiser is having to have a lie down after calculating how much £35+ x12 x n years is!!

I think your situation has rather moved on from a 'housing' issue so your probably more likely to find someone who knows the answer on another board? perhaps techie?
  • I had sky installed on a communal dish. I rang sky and told them I lived in an apartment and they put me in contact with a local company. Literally, all the guy did was hook the box up to the wall socket and switch it on. The distrubtion system in the apartment was already connected. It was actually located in our store cupboard anyway.

  • Thanks for the help. I've had to use the sub-contractor after being messed around a litle by sky. So, problem/thread solved/closed. Thank you.

Moneysavingmonkey - My tip, pub for the football instead of paying for sky sports.... although this may end up costing more if you drink alot :-)

    Hi,

I have always liked Sky for mainly the football and Sky One. Watch most of the other channels as well and my son watches the kids programmes. So for me Sky is great and when they started doing Broadband for a fiver I was made up and never had a problem.

I Know Sky isn't for everyone but if you enjoy watching the sports, Sky One and pay per view events then I'd recommend it :D
