Hi, Sorry if this is in the wrong place..

I went BR in 2012 - obviously been discharged since 2013 and it dropped off my file on 2nd of May when my rating went back to the top for the respective agencies. I've been with Vanquis since Jan 2014 and have gone from £200 to £3000 limit - held a balance for 2 years - was £0 for 6 months - ran it to nearly the limit 3 times, paid it off in full 3 times.

Credit file shows 4 years of green, the rest of my file shows similar now. However I am with Barclays - and they say whilst I am with Vanquis they won't look at me for anything. They say Vanquis and Aqua are associations they don't like to have. I was with Barclays when I went into BR and the day I was discharged they wiped me from the system totally as a customer so I had to open a new current account.

Now I've seen people on here saying they have a Barclaycard and a Vanquis card, but these are not compatible apparently.

Should I close my Vanquis card? Or not listen to the bank and look around? I thought having a fairly decent record was going to help not hinder me. Having learnt loyalty means nothing I am scared to sever links with Barclays and have to re build history with another Legacy bank.

I have a Starling current account which is why I refer to Barclays as legacy.

I went to Barclays because I've been offered he chance to buy the house I live in, I appreciate there are many brokers out there, I just thought it would be easier to stick to my bank.

Thanks!

If you went BR and owed Barclays money there's no reason they have to have you as a customer for credit - once bitten, twice shy and all that. Could just be an excuse to avoid saying they don't want you back, as there's no obvious reason why they would care what other cards you have. Use someone else who wants your business, or stick with Vanquish. If you want to buy the house and get a mortgage, why are you taking on extra credit before the application? Any card that is paid off in full every month will improve your rating

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Barclays wouldn't say that at all as they have no idea who your credit cards are with. A credit report for a bank only shows amounts, it doesn't show the lender.

    Thanks for your replys

Nasqueron - I didn't owe them anything, I had a top end current account with a fairly large sum in but it was not enough to scratch my BR total - so it was taken by the OR and my account busted down to online and cash machine access only - until it was wiped.

You said "Could just be an excuse to avoid saying they don't want you back" But as I stated I re joined Barclays as soon as I was discharged and have been with them every since on a full current account which I have run perfectly - he said my internal rating was as high as it could be because of the way I've run my account.

Then i am miffed as to why he mentioned it in the meeting I had with him last week, despite me saying nothing. He said he could see my file and even listed my 4 current accounts I have open, Barclays and vanquis being 2 of them.

I went BR because my ex wife stiffed me with the mortgage and the stress of a divorce/child battle put me into a coma for 6 months and I lost my job and everything apart from a £150K debt, I was 999/700 with a prefect record and a highly paid job before that day.

Just to get that point across - BR never was and never would be anything less than a last resort for me. For such a highly profiled site I really dislike the way assumptions are made from the first post.

I’ve held a Barclaycard and a vanquis card at the same time. No longer have the vanquis card it was closed in 2016. I think they are taking a pile of rubbish. Take your business elsewhere!

I said in the preceding sentence that they might not want you for CREDIT if you owed them money.

There are no assumptions here, we deal with what you tell us. You said you were Barclays before, you went BR, they closed your account. If you don't make it clear you didn't owe them any more as a result of that, it's hard to know you didn't isn't it?

As above, they don't know what cards you have with other lenders, just that you do have one, probably an advisor passing on gossip from their team without knowing any better.

If you want a mortgage don't apply for new credit, just keep paying off the card in full every month, be on the electoral register, get a phone contract and pay it on time etc

How does Barclays know you have a Vanquis card? When they check your credit reports they don't see the names of lenders, however your £300 limit might be a clue.

If anything, it's your low credit limit that may be putting Barclays off.

I have a Barclaycard, Aquacard and Granite (Vanquis) card.

Aquacard offers me 0.5% cashback and no extra fees when I spend abroad. Things that many 'prime' cards don't.

Aqua and Vanquis are not associated with Barclays.

And Barclays cannot see from your credit report whom you creditors are.

So how do they know this?

Also ignore any scores or ratings as they’re made up

No but apparently they are 2 companys the computer does not like.. I do find this hard to believe - 6 months ago I was being offered up to 60K on loans via the app - but I got a new PCP deal so the new car marker went on my account so it was removed - I had Vanquis then too.

I will shop around, maybe you are right there
