  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Pleased that MR TA's problem is not what you feared, but sad that it will not improve. I hope the milk shakes help him to put on some much needed weight.

Lovely morning. heating is off, hoping to save some pennies!! OH is going to paint my line prop with preservative, I plan to try and get a few more plants in the garden, the soils is so heavy. The climbing rose I bought needs to go in and I will ask the gardener to help me put the clematis in when she comes today.

As its going to be very warm I think we will have bacon fritatta and salad for supper tonight......I might make a chocolate fluff for dessert.

Our friends came yesterday for tea and a chat, they admired the garden, I must admit it does look good just now. It will, however, be better when I have filled up some of the empty spaces. OH is talking about getting another bag of wood chip's for the paths in the veg garden.

Off to find my sunhat and spade......

    Good morning everyone
Nice and bright here, though it seems quite windy. Thanks for all your good wishes...at long last I'm feeling better although it's been a horrible illness. I'm planning to go back to work on Tuesday, it's a short week with the bank holiday on Monday so that's nice.
I'm going to walk along to Poundland when I'm up and organised...I need some of their climbing plants to grow up the fence in my back garden. I bought some last year and they've come back lovely in the last couple of weeks. I also need to get a few things for my mam. She was ill through the night on Thursday and fainted several times, hitting her head badly. My sister in law rang at 6.45 yesterday morning for me to get down to stay with my dad while she took mam to the hospital. It's only 5 minutes walk down the hill, so lots of reassurance for dad, who feels useless at such times as he can't get out of bed without help. It turned out she has an inner ear infection, so she was given tablets for the dizziness. A bad cut on the side of her head was stapled and then she has a very black eye on the other side....by last night the bruising had spread right down her face. She was just pleased there was a reason why it happened, she was scared they wouldn't know what it was.
I really think it was easier to have little children than to have elderly parents, it's a constant worry of what could happen next...though I suppose the worry of children was easier because I had my mam to call on.
Hope everyone has a good day and sees some sunshine.

TA how about full fat creamy coffees with flavour syrups in? Or milkshakes made with ice cream & flavour syrups? Or tiramisu or trifles? Even small portions can be very high calorie count ;)

    Morning all.

Thanks for the thread Holly and hugs to all those in need.

We've been moving on most days and the WiFi has been very hit and miss, more miss that hit, so I haven't posted for a few days.

Yesterday we moored at Victoria park in Newbury DD came to see us with SIL, all the DGC's and the dog, we stayed there overnight and despite CHS'S misgivings it was quiet apart from the traffic. Today we are heading back and stopping at Tesco o on the way. CHS is back at work Tuesday and in looking after dgd, so we need to be nearer Reading by then.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning all TA I was relieved to see that it wasn't what you feared though bad enough.

I got up at 3, and have made most of a bear. I'm just messing about now, OH has been shopping and is putting stuff away now, I'll be off to do personal errands and visit a friend later

Last night's dinner was meatballs in an almond and saffron sauce, delicious and not exactly thrifty, but I don't make it very often. Not necessarily for reasobs of thrift, it is a bit faffy. Salad and wedges are cheap though.

OH is cooking this evening, they are having a thing called lambacon which apparently is breast of lamb, cooked, sliced very thinly then cooked again as you would cook bacon. They say they've had it before but it must have been on a day when I was working late. Im having a small piece of haddock. The only lamb I can eat is roast.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Its a lovely day here sun is shining with a slight breeze, I have a wash load on the go and a towel load to go in after they can all go on the line today.

DD and her boyf are away for the night tonight so it will be peaceful here, they are at the moment emptying the dw and re-loading, dd has hovered upstairs and boyf will clean the bathroom before they go, those are their jobs each week.

OH and I will do downstairs and then go and get some shopping in I fancy those scallops wrapped in bacon again they were very tasty, and then a selection of cheese's olives tomatoes etc but will see what OH fancies and then decide between us, wine will be very much involved though !

Tomorrow OH and I will go and investigate the waterfall we found a few weeks ago, we are going to take a picnic of French loaf and some brie and have a good walk and investigate the area.

Floss its our house insurance we are claiming on, OH put the kitchen in himself we think there might be a leaking pipe, OH thinks it might be under the floor, Ive got an e-mail from them yesterday saying we now have two weeks to get the works re done and submit an invoice and photos of the problem !! Who the hell can get hold of a builder and job done within two weeks
, they will be getting a complaint from me once this is over !!

TA glad the news was not as bad as you feared yesterday xx

AOD your meatballs with the almond and saffron sauce sounds lovely any chance I could have the recipe ?

Hi everyone a beautiful sunny day here in Kent the sun is shining and the sky is blue what a lovely change ,especially for a bank holiday weekend.

Mrs TA I had the protein shakes when I was going through chemo and I too preferred the strawberry ones, they really are delicious ,especially when you can't eat much else and they help to keep your calories up when you have lost weight or just can't face eating anything.
I normally eat and love spicy food and for almost a year I couldn't touch it as it made me feel so poorly and eating beige food was so depressing. Our local chemist even delivered it a months supply at a time so I didn't have to try to carry all the bottles home.I hope you can get it as it was on prescription for me for months.

DGS Ben arrived home from Uni yesterday afternoon and it was lovely to see him I spent most of last night sewing up his favourite jeans (not so much sewing as patching them :)) They were getting quite thread bare and he hates buying and wearing new jeans :):)

Not too sure what I am doing today I am going to make a big lasagna for the boys for tomorrow as DD and her OH are going out to Dartford for the evening to see Madame Butterfly my son-in-law bought the tickets at Christmas as a treat for DD.I know the boys all enjoy lasagna so a big dish of that will go down well I think, with salad and garlic bread

I will probably bake some cakes as well as Ben looks in need of some filling up with Grannies cakes :):) none of the shop bought stuff for him he likes what he calls 'proper cake ' that hasn't got a six month shelf life :):):) I have a yen for cherry scones for a change

apart from that just a generally quiet pottering day today I think

Hope everyone has a good weekend and well done HollyH for people watching and getting out in the sun.

Take care everyone I bet nelski is drooling over James Martin this morning :):):) what a hussy :):):)

Redruby, here it is. I have adapted it from the original recipe as the order of doing the various things was not sensible.
Quantities can be varied according to number of people.

    ALBONDIGAS CON AZAFRAN Y ALMENDRAS
Meatballs - make these first, set aside once floured.
Equal quantity minced beef and minced pork
    I small onion, finely chopped.
2 slices crust less white bread, soaked in a little milk and squeezed out.
    2 garlic cloves, chopped
    1 large egg
    Finely chopped parsley
    Freshly grated nutmeg.
Season if you want but it doesn't need much

Combine ingredients, make into small balls and coat in flour

    Next make the sauce
A large handful of blanched ir flaked almonds. Recipe says 40 blanched almonds, I am not wildly interested in counting almonds, life's too short
250 ml chicken stock, or in my kitchen, some chicken stock
150 ml white wine, or in my kitchen, a good glug. I expect you could leave this out if teetotal, I'm not.
    Olive oil
Half a teaspoon of saffron, that's less than I use though.I like saffron.
1 slice white bread, rip it up, leave crust on
2 fat garlic cloves, you will stink, .lovely garlic
10 peppercorns or in my kitchen some, or more sccurately lots.
1 clove, but I use 2, the slight clove taste really lifts the taste
Lemon juice and parsley to finish

Fry the garlic, bread and almonds until golden, add wine and stock, add peppercorns and cloves and blend. I use a stick blender, you can put it in a food processor if you like washing up.Cook gently while you fry the meatballs very gently until golden, then tip the meatballs into the sauce and cook until they are done. Stir very gently because it might try to stick to the pan but at the same time the meatballs fragment if stirred too vigorously.

When ready to serve, stir in a squeeze of lemon juice, serve sprinkled with parsley and you can also scatter toasted almonds over it but mostly by this point I have had enough faffing about. Lovely with a nice crisp salad, my chaps like some form of potato or grain with it, rice is nice.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Anyone got a couple of matchsticks I could scrounge? I need them to prop my eyes open.
Two nights of lying awake til gone 04:00 worrying - not good. :(

TA I can't add to what the others have said, but I do hope you can get some calories into Mr TA and build him up a bit.

    Afternoon all,

TA I had awful problems getting Prodigal to eat when he was little. The best piece of advice i was given was to let him eat whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. I thought that was a stupid piece of advice because given a choice, most kids would eat as much rubbish that they could fit in their mouths and sod the consequences but the idea behind it was that it would keep their stomachs 'stretched' and appetite going. All i had to do was steer his diet in the right direction when wasnt so ill. I used to give him minadex which is a multivitamin tonic. They used to do an adult version of it as well. I dont know if that will help Mr TA. Well that 'stupid' peice of advice really did help me. I do understand you have a problem with getting anything into him at all though which is a problem in itself. He has got to 'want' to eat which isnt something you can fix in itself.

Shopping this morning. First stop Currys for a new vacuum. Ive got aches on aches trying to get the dog hairs up with my broken vacuum and although Grump wanted me to manage another week, he took pity on me when he saw me reaching for the paracetamol as ive got aches on aches today trying to keep the carpets dog hair free.

Food shop bought, we can eat for another week.:T

    Onwards and forwards,

hope your having a great day all.
