This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
:hello:
I’ve slept through until 5.30am this morning, so much better than usual
.
It was a glorious day yesterday here and more is forecast for the weekend which is lovely. I will be able to stay out most of the day which is good. There are a few things going on in the area over the bank holiday weekend and I want to have a look through the programme and see if there is anything I fancy going to, although I think I will give the funfair in the lower park a miss! I’m a bit too old for that, and to be honest, I never did enjoy the rides even as a child and teenager they always made me feel dizzy and nauseous.
The meal my friend cooked yesterday evening was great, and we sat outside in the evening sun until it got dark and we started to get bitten by the mosquitoes. They always seem to be attracted to me, so it is time to start using the mosquito repellent. I’ve got quite a few itchy bumps from yesterday.
So todays plan is to go to the supermarket and get a few bits for the weekend early, come back and watch a bit of James Martin and make some sandwiches and go for a nice walk (ok, slow stroll as it will be warm) then go to the park to eat my lunch. I’m sure that an ice cream will feature somewhere in there as well.
I hope that you all have a good Saturday and that you get some of the sunshine we have got down here.
Have a good Saturday everyone whatever you are doing.0 -

Yesterday's post wasn't meant to be whiny, I had intended to actually talk to you

TravellingAbuela I hope all went well yesterday xx
LameWolf I wish mr tru's hobby would involve buying a house, living in it while he does it up, then staying there. While I stay here

I'm glad your SIL is OK snoozer
Yesterday involved rushing then hanging around with nothing to do X2. Today will be so much nicer because I'm on my own
Scampi had a couple of walks and we popped to Dobbies where dogs were welcome but I didn't take him in, it was too busy. We had a wander around the car park while mr tru was in the shop, lots of people were using trollies so I though we'd have to go back to the car (wheels are evil, remember? lol) but he paid no attention to them. We waited near the door for mr tru to come out, he watched everyone going past and said hello to a few people when they spoke to him. He's never been so calm around so many people, it was fab. He let off some steam by running around the bottom of the hill when we got to mum and dad's house then sat next to mum for cuddles when we finally reached her kitchen. I was so pleased to sit there – there was lots of coffee and cake

I'll run the hoover round and put a load of washing on, then head out for a walk with Scampi. I've taken your excellent advice Holly, this afternoon will involve watching NCIS and Bull
I'm in a Christmassy mood so will go through my craft mags and see if I can transform things like a felt reindeer decoration into a crochet version. Probably not but it'll be fun to try. Might walk to my friends' house later, partly because I want to see them and partly so Scampi can play with their dogs Ted and Mabel

Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. And thanks to all of you lovely people who wished us well yesterday with Mr TA's appt with the Oncology consultant.
Long story, will try to be brief. He doesn't think the problem digesting/eating is connected to the cancer. More likely to be caused by the peripheral neurophathy and further nerve damage. I had read up that this could happen but had convinced myself it was the cancer spreading. Anyway we see the Neurologist in 10 days so will discuss that. We also mentioned the problems he was having with the stent this time. He is going to discuss this with the Urologist and suggest it is removed as it seems to be doing more harm than good. Up every hour and a half every night is leaving him drained all the next day.
So there we are and now it's a complete rethink about his diet and must try and get more nutritional/calorific/easily digested meals inside him. He can't afford to lose any more weight. The trouble is I mustn't join him on this plan or I will end up like a house side!! So it will be cooking two different meals from now on every meal time.
I got some mince and hm pastry out to defrost last night so today it's a minced beef pie with creamy buttery mash and tasty gravy. Some pea and ham soup defrosting for lunch, though it's not really soup weather!
It feels very warm already so the weather is living up to the forecast. We still have the love seat to make up that I ordered ages ago, so plan on dragging the box out of the garage onto the patio and assemble that in the sunshine. I bought some teak oil to protect it when the job is done!
DD, BF and the DGDs are finally using my Xmas present to them this evening! They are off to Manchester to see the Vamps perform at the Arena. They are going there and back by train.
Have a lovely day folks and make the best of the sunshine if you can. ((HUGS)) as always for all who need/want them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and I up enjoying peaceful cuppas, I've showered and dressed as I'm working this morning.
Sun is shining and sky is clear, I'll peg the washing out shortly.
Dinner last night was a disjointed one as boys ate first, once DS1 had got back from having a haircut then shower, and DH and I ate once he got home from work a bit late. DS1 took DS2 out for first time with DS1's mates - they rolled in at 2.15am so not too late and no-one in too much of a state. Dinner for them was breaded chicken portions, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, I had mushroom omelette and salad. Tonight I'm not sure what we'll be having.
I was again quite productive yesterday and got the jobs done I wanted.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.
I'm so pleased that your worst fears have not come true TA. The docs will come up with solutions to the problems. My beloved Dad was prescribed drinks when he was unable to eat. Some were high calorie fruit flavoured drinks and others were something like Complan which was nutritionally complete. I hope you can relax a bit now and enjoy your kitchen and the weekend.
Holly - you are so good at keeeping yourself busy and out of the house. Engaging so much with the outside world is not something I do very well, in that way I envy you.
Tru - it's really lovely to read about Scampi behaving so well. All down to your training!
My day will follow the usual Saturday routine. Take DM for her round Waitrose and the head home. Next week is the madly manic one so I need to gather my strength and organise my clothes so I can just grab a pile each day.
It may turn out glorious, or is that wishful thinking on my part? Whatever...I wish everyone a happy Saturday.0 -
GERS alas they will not come up with a solution as the nerve damage is irreversible and will continue to get worse over time, affecting his whole system. I am trying not to think that far ahead but it's not easy.
We had the nutritional drinks prescribed 3 years ago when he couldn't eat (different problem) and he couldn't stomach the fruit ones. He found them very sickly. I tried making jellies with them but they weren't to his taste. In fact the only one he liked was the strawberry milk one and I used to make a milk shake with them using full fat jersey ice cream and a dash of double cream for good measure. It came to around 1,000 calories a glass!! We might have to request some of those.
Mr TA has now vacated the bed so I will strip that and get it pegged out. Should dry in record time. Isn't it lovely to be able to hang washing outside again."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone, the sun is out and it’s forecasted to stay all day.
Home now and despite how lovely our holiday was it was good to sleep in my own bed. The journey home wasn’t too bad, we went a more scenic route to avoid the BH moterway madness as much as possible so avoided the majority of queues.
We are meeting eldest DSS for breakfast then will be off to the yard to see Lu, hope she remembers me
Pleased to read that the news wasn’t as bad as expected TA and hope that the consultant will come up with a solution to the eating problems.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Good morning everyone. It's a lovely morning here, sunny and mild. Yesterday was a beautiful day, .but it cooled down in the evening, we rarely get warm evenings here.
So glad Mr TA's condition is not what you feared TA, though it is serious enough. I hope he can put on some weight. It's so worrying for you.
I hope everyone has a good day in this lovely weather.
Take care folks.0 -
Morning All
Grey but dry here so all the washing is on the line. I'll give it another half an hour to see what it does and decide if I'll strip the bed or leave it until tomorrow.
So pleased to hear of Scampi's successful trip out, what a great job you have done tru.
I'm sure you'll get those calories into your OH TA although the thought of those milky drinks makes my stomach turn!
Hope the weather stays good for you Holly.
Shopping this morning, allotment this afternoon - I think DD is coming over to give me a hand. DS1 is going to visit this afternoon and we will go out for something to eat later. If it's too late for him to go home he will stay until tomorrow morning, he has the children to collect.
Have a good weekend. Take care. XX0 -
Good morning all,
It looks like a good day to get my washing out on the line here so that means it will probably be a gardening day too. The grass needs cutting and I'm sure the weeds will be making an entrance again. I wore my old jeans the last time I did the garden and they're a bit big for me now so I ended up with an interesting stripe of sunburn on my (much) lower back :rotfl:
TA Good luck with your quest to get the extra calories into MrTA. Does he have blood tests regularly to check for any problems? If he hasn't had any lately it may be worth a trip to the GP to ask to have his vitamin levels checked. If he's not eating to start with that could cause other problems which would then lead to exhaustion, not feeling like eating and so on....which on top of the other stuff that he has going in he just doesn't need. If he's having trouble with his stomach that could affect his uptake of Vit B which won't help with the exhaustion.
Holly enjoy your outing. As soon as the sun comes out I get fidgety and just want to be outdoors. I hope the sun stays with us for a couple of days at least.
Take care all of you
